ArmA? Not my style, but not a bad promo.

why? Day Z is for ArmA 2, which is the infinitely better game.

ArmA 1 is (or rather, was) interesting from a technical point of view, but as a game, it's pretty horrible. lacks direction, the campaign is boring, the characters are flatter than a sheet of paper and the missions have numerous scripting errors.

anybody looking to get into the series should start straight with ArmA 2: Combined Operations. ArmA 1 is a waste of time at this point, unless you're historically interested in the series.

If you have extra cash, just get the ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead. Combined Operations is great option too, if you have time to play both games. If not, Arrowhead is suffice. Or just save your money for the upcoming ArmA III.

I've bought ArmA 1 full price from GOG and i don't regret it. With the latest updates (included in the GOG version) it's quite enjoyable. Campaign isn't that great, but there are interesting missions and you can have lots of fun with the included editor. There are also some nice MODs for ArmA 1.
Of course, ArmA 2 is the better game, but it's not 4$ (a real steal for the amount of content you get here) and it's not available DRM-free from GOG... Which reminds me, I have to vote for ArmA2 on the wishlist right now :)

well, i bought ArmA 1 for full price on release when it came out. and i'm in the same country as you so you can imagine what i paid for it. needless to say, ArmA 1 is the one game i could have done without, and that's saying something considering i own hundreds of games, and not all of them would be considered to be "good" games by the average gamer.

the problem with the game is the fact that it was basically a cash-grab. Bohemia was developing ArmA 2 already at the time, but they needed some money coming in, so they took what they had a third or so into the development of ArmA 2 tech and released it as a sequel to Operation Flashpoint.

yes, it's playable. it might even be enjoyable, though i didn't enjoy it much. i went back to Operation Flashpoint and then on to ArmA 2. ArmA 2 is the game ArmA should have been, but really, ArmA 1 should never have happened, from a design point of view.

i think ArmA 1, and it's horrible state at release, cost Bohemia a lot of respect. the buggy release of ArmA 2 didn't help, either, but at least the generally high quality of their ArmA 2 games made up for it.

why am i bothering with this at all? because ArmA 1 may put you off the series permanently. which would be a shame because ArmA 2 is a gem of a game. get that one instead.

I'm pretty sure I won't like it, but I'm taking it. Never tried hardcore war games like that.

FYI: Thats ArmA 1 guys, Day Z works only with 2.

Agreed. Despite the mediocre critical reception Hard Reset has been intriguing me ever since I heard of it. And especially after it occurred to me that it was created by some of the developers of the original Painkiller (which I'm a huge fan of). I'm still wondering though how it's possible that the NecroVision staff also claims to consist of former Painkiller developers. I'm waiting for another small Polish developer studio to show up and claim that they consist of former Painkiller guys. Reminds me of the time when Putin got more than 100% of the votes.
