Sorry for the late response Faithful, it's a hectic time right now.
The ideas are great :)
And I hope we can do gift system sometime in the near future.. before xmas for example as Tephirax suggested ;)
It's been on our internal feature list for some time but it's great to see that great minds think alike :)
Great, then I can put GOG.com on my Christmas list ;)

As well as a money gift voucher (for $5.99/$9.99 or a denomination like $20), iTunes-style "specific item" voucher codes would be great. So for example I could buy a gift copy of Hostile Waters for someone, and then give them a gift card (that I buy in a card shop obviously :P) with a voucher code written in it that will let them download Hostile Waters when they put it in.
Being able to gift games to my friends is one of my favorite features of Valve's Steam service. Naturally, I'd love to see GoG.com implement something in a similar fashion.
This sounds like a great way to get some friends and family all in on great old multiplayer games on the cheap.
Sweet for X-mas too; do X-mas stuff all day and then at night when everyone is pooped and gone home, fire up a multiplayer game with friends and family from distant lands and trash talk each other just like the old days! I'd be up for it.

Thank you for the response. I look forward to being able to give and receive gog game purchase codes! :o)
Would this idea work as a workaround?
Set up another account, buy the games you want to gift then send your friend the username and password with instructions on how to change it?
It's a little obtuse but since GOG doesn't keep your credit card details it's doable I should think, in case gift codes don't get here by Christmas.
Although gift codes/cards for games would be awesome.
Printable certificates that you can line stockings with, anyone?

It would work, although I'd recommend waiting just a little bit more, like one week or so :). We're putting final touches to the design and testing the whole thing.
Stay tuned!

deathkitten: OK ITS OFFICIAL GIFT CODES 9TH DECEMBER/1 WEEKISH YAY

The exact date is not yet set - that's why I've said "like one week or so" :). Just please stay tuned.
this is cool... I'm hoping you can can gift credit or specific games. Maybe you could also do the thing where if you buy two copies of the game you can gift one to a different user (a la steam).
