I got an email saying that my application to review witcher 2 has been denied but because I took the time to fill out the application I've been given a free copy of 'The witcher'. I follow the instructions (the correct link on the second email) and when I click to buy the game it just says i have 50% off and still have to pay $4.99.

Error? or is it just that I get a discount and not the entire game for free?

thanks in advance

Try reedeming it here:

I don't have any idea what "the correct link on the second email" is, but I read a few similar posts today and the above link solved the issue for them.

He already used the correct link, as he stated in his post.

At first the newsletter stated the gift-redeeming link, and a second newsletter went out giving the bonus redemption link (which he used, as the gift-link would not even let you press the redeeming button).

I ended up with the same 50% off discount, even though it clearly states adding it to my library for free on the game's page.
My guess would be there's something colliding between the Free code and the regular 50% discount today.

I would agree, I follow all the instructions and and tried all the links no matter what, I end up here:

Yup, you'll have to wait until the promo is over. Free-game-codes have only ever been usable while the game is at full price.

Not really as game in promo has probably quite different code in code system than at full price.

So how can I get a free-game-code?

Eh? Sorry, I'm confused - I thought there must have been some promo or something as I have seen more than one person get a Witcher 1 copy free, I just wondering how.

It has to do with not wanting people to rack up thousands of gift codes while the game is free, like with Fallout recently. So the whole free-game-gift thing is disabled, even for cases like this where it would make sense to be able to redeem it.

gameon: There was a survey to win the witcher 2. And apparently everyone who got rejected recieved a free code for the witcher 1. As it was a surprise to everyone, i personally didnt enter, so did not get the code.

The only way to get the witcher "for free" is to vote in that wishlist so hopefully people who actually did buy the game, can get their "backup" code.
Ah.

So the survey is over?

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying.
