Wow, this sounds exactly like something I wanted for my non-Steam games. Will try immediately. :)
This is a nice piece of software. I've been using it for more than a year now, the dev team, though very small, is really friendly and listens to the community. Updates come out pretty often, and even though the whole service is still a bit rough around the edges (it's still in beta, after all) there really is great potential.

Besides all the web 2.0 bells and whistles, here are some nice benefits of running the Evolve client :
- in-game overlay with flash-enabled browser
- in-game IM chat (MSN/GTalk/Steam compatible)
- optionnal FPS counter
- the overlay is activated using the Windows key, so no more unwanted window-switching during gameplay
- screenshots taking with a nice camera-like sound and flash so you're certain the screenshot has been taken
- in-game video recording with decent enough framerate (good computer required, though). No time limit for the video recording, so that's better than the free version of FRAPS.
- party system, that is basically an easy-to-use LAN-over-the-internet thing compatible with most games (similar to Tunngle or Hamachi, but having it integrated with a social software is really handy).

So overall, a pretty nice program.

"Quit Playing with yourself, Start Playing with Evolve "

.....
The Windows key thing alone makes this worth checking out. It doesn't happen to also disable that stupid ctrl + alt + arrow key thing that MS insisted upon putting in Win 7? Not that it's a big deal, I'll just disable that myself.
Installing tonight.
Will definiely check this out,. If it really works with GOG games, it's the best thing ever.
Compatibility is on a per-game basis. I've tried a few GOGs and they were detected properly. Older games might have trouble with the whole overlay thingy, to check simply search for the game card on evolvehq. The available functionnalities appear under the game title on the card :
- 'track' : evolve will notice that you're playing the game and will track your playtime
- "overlay" : the whole in-game overlay-related stuff, so browser, chat, and screenshots/videos.
- "party" : you can play this game's multiplayer using evolve's party manager, to find buddies on evolve's lobby or simply to organize a game more easily with your own buddies.
And how do you add games there?

edit: oh, I see.. It's automatical. OK.

Ooh, this looks nice, thanks. I kind of wish it could somehow bring over your Steam friends, since most of my friends are mainly Steam gamers, but since it integrates with Facebook that's mostly a non-issue.

EDIT: Wait, it is Steam compatible? If so, that's awesome.

Just to clarify a bit : Steam compatibility is there, BUT you need to have the Steam client running alongside Evolve. Basically, Evolve is routing your message through the Steam client, so the conversation is accessible both via the Evolve chat window and the Steam chat window. It's a bit of a hack since the Steam chat protocol was not made accessible to the Evolve dev team.

If, like me, you have the Steam client running silently at startup, you won't notice a thing and it's just like if Evolve could send messages via Steam natively. However, if you plan on connecting with Steam friends on a computer without the Steam client, Evolve won't help you.
