Zolgar: BG makes IWD seem nice and easy. (In IWD you custom craft your entire party, allowing you to create a nice synergy, and no one character is 'game over' if they die. BG you only create the main character, and it's game over if they die)
I can't stress this enough: you can create a full custom party in multiplayer (ie. start a multiplayer game even if playing solo, as an added bonus the game won't unpause when you enter the inventory screen).

The party leader dying still gives you game over though.

...not that I'd ever refuse Imoen, and I'd like not being limited to 6 characters so I could have more of them join at once.

HomerSimpson: Tyrian 2000- It's an arcade game.
That doesn't make it easy. Tyrian is not an easy game, really :P

Just buy the Sonic rear gun, upgrade it to spread fire forward, balance it with shield and generator efficiency and the entire game will become much easier.
Or get Jets'N'Guns.

It is much more easier than Raptor thanks to regenerating shields.

KneeTheCap: If the game can be something that is not on GOG, then Fable 3. It's very easy, but quite entertaining :)

Edit. And it has John Cleese and Simon Pegg voicing :D
No, it doesn't have to be GOG but was looking for and found an excuse to buy Planescape and Baldurs Gate which were two of the titles I was interested in.

I actually fancied Fable, TLC but have heard it isn't compatible with Win 7 64 bit (there are some suggestions online but can't be bothered with tinkering! I will try Fable 3 among other recommended games from this thread. HOMM is another I liked the look of...

By the way Thiev - I can't work out what TIM stands for :S

Appreciate all responses to date and any further suggestions. Thanks!

Zchinque: Rollercoaster Tycoon is pretty easy.
Well off-topic, but: I am hopeless at actually building worthwhile rollercoasters :(. Always was. And only ever putting down ready made ones makes it both rather too easy and - mostly - takes away all the fun of customizing that could be had. And ye, I tried tutorials and video walkthroughs etc.

Antimateria: Oh.. Voice actors chance everything.
avatar
Thiev: Sad but true. Voice acting can make me play a game I wouldn't touch normally.

On topic, no one mentioned TIM games yet. Complex *and* easy to play ;)
Discworlds rincewind is epic. Eric Idle I presume.

No problem and thanks for the suggestion and link.
Serious Sam games.
pigdog I'm sort of with you! Put the fish in a barrel and give me a shotgun please!

However, actually a lot of games are like that anyway if you just persist until you get good. Just get out there and die a lot! Become expert at losing and be proud of your rare talent! Heck it's only pixels. Everyone is like you. We all learn just one thing at a time.

Of GoG games, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete. Developers could have made a better game since it was released, but Developers obviously have not! Turn based game.

Run Tutorial a couple times to get mechanics and icons straight. Play some random maps. Play lots of random maps. Heck, all you need do is play random maps! Stick toe gently into shark infested waters of the Campaigns. Eh, not really! Campaigns and scenarios to last a life time. Stay on Easy and be a tourist or don't.

Watch videos of play throughs of any game on YouTube before buying. Most are up there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiYvdkCDFC8&feature=related boardgamergirl play through of HoMM 3. Play through alive and still in progress. Only need to watch first two or three. She is good instructor and speaks well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EplLyekzMFA TheMeinTeam play through of HoMM 3. Play through alive and still in progress. Excellent player and instructor. TheMeinTeam also plays Civ Series, StarCraft 2, and others. Guy is brilliant. Other good videos on HoMM 3, too many to list here.

Watching game videos on YouTube is a game in itself. Find out who TotalHalibut is. He covers a wide variety of new games with a good introductory video. Aka TotalBiscuit The Cynical Brit, this guy is a hoot!

Of non GoG games, very lot of newer games including online games that are not only not very demanding but can be played while asleep or seriously decomposed by spirits. That is the wave of the future for gaming I think.
