Mentalepsy: What kind of difficulty turns you off? Is it just your reflexes, or do you dislike excessively difficult puzzles, strategic problems, etc as well?
I can't play FPS' where enemy AI is capable of hitting their target i.e. me, first time, every time. I also need an option where I can pretty much absorb 20 hits that only slightly dents my life bar!

Strategy, especially real-time is an immediate turn off as I like to think about what to do.

I'm hanging my head in shame as I write this but I basically like to breeze through a game and enjoy progressing rather than walk, die, learn from mistakes, progress, die, learn from mistakes....rinse and repeat!

Arianus: I always liked to Kings Quest series.

And I'd like to agree with one of the posters above Heroes of Might and Magic 3 awesome turn based strategy game every made.

Antimateria: I played heroes 3 with my brother.. he showed me how to play.. It's better than chess and I hate chess.

And I liked police quest 1 and 2. I must google those that I don't remember wrong games.
All the King's Quests are on GoG I highly recommend picking them up if your into adventure games.

Hot seat HOMM3 best thing ever. :D

Fenixp: Planescape Torment is mainly dialogue and I think tweak pack offers some cheat items that could make occasional combat easier - however, only 2 or so fights troughout the entire game are required, rest you can run trough, talk trough or skip in some other way.

Antimateria: 2 or so? I guess I wasn't intelligent enough. =)
Note that you only need one character to reach exit for the whole party to go there, and Annah is quite good at sneaking...

Well.. I played police quest after watching miami vice. =)
And heroes 3 is better than panzer general 2. i'm not so much in those WW2 things.. And I also don't really like call of duty franchise.. I don't get it.. Reviews say it's good and it's total pipegame. No freedom at all. And some other shooter comes "there isn't any freedom"
Those little pricks.

Edit: Hot seat is that that (I try my best) other one looks away when other makes his moves or what the hell? =P

I almost went that game trough some years ago.. 8 years? =) (there was multible battles for me)
There really is much reading but the story is really good. I like that game mutch (is it a word, no) more than baldurs. Well.. Do not crusify me if I think that DA:O well, for me it was better than what I played baldurs 2.. But nowadays maybe i would like it more. But even still, planescape is better than any of those. Flying skull crowned the whole thing.

pigdog: I’d like to try Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate series and Might and Magic but have read on other sites that these are hard – would be delighted to hear otherwise.
Baldur's Gate is hard because most people play with the core ruleset. On the easiest setting it is very manageable because characters don't die permanently, you do more and take less damage with foes, you get full hit points at level up instead of a dice roll, you have all spells a priori rather than learning them from scrolls etc.
You know.. In my opinion Bioware has chosen better female voices.. In mass effect I play with female-specimen because of that and.. now two games with same character, not gonna change. And Even In DA 2 I liked the woman better.
And so started my career as a female lesbian.
Well.. I don't know really any male lesbians. But I guess it's very much possible in this crazy world.

Thanks - I really like the look of BG. Other forums have said that the 2nd is much better than the 1st. Is that true in your opinion and if so, can it be played without first finishing 1 or do you loose a chunk of the plot?

Antimateria - I don't like WW2 games either but probably for different reasons. I can't play games that are too realistic: So shooting someone in a graphically accurate representation of a real war zone is a no-no for me.

However, killing mechs in ME2 or scientists with gene modifications in Bioshock is all good!

I'm terrible at platformers, but found psychonauts entirely playable until the very last level (which I found plain impossible, and just watched on youtube). I'd highly recommend it despite the last level.

A lot of people have compained that Two Worlds is too easy (if you don't play as a mage, which is quite hard). However I think there is an initial steep learning curve until you get some perma-potions.

Is it that you lack the patience to learn the techniques for a game, or is it that you get frustrated by repeatedly dying?

If it is the latter, and you don't mind working things out, you could try an adventure game like Syberia, you can't die in it, and you can just look up a walkthrough when you get stuck.

Equally so, once you know how to do it, the un-modded version of Jagged Alliance 2 is a piece of cake once you understand not to fight in the day time, and to hide around a corner with your squad, shooting them as they come around.

Ground Control. Letting artillery level everything works wonders, even if it is quite slow (read a book or something). Things get ridiculously fast and ridiculously easy once you get bombers.

IL-2. There are many ways you can make it easier, and once you get the hang of things, you can gradually turn off things like invincibility and infinite ammo until you've reached a level you're comfortable with. Mind you, having a joystick is practically mandatory.

Also, Planescape: Torment is not difficult. The combat system is pretty simple, and since there is no "you must gather your party before venturing forth" bullshit you can make one character sneak past enemies knowing that everyone else teleports to him/her once he/she enters a new area.

Better yet, OpenTTD. You don't even need to pay. They went homemade sprites a while ago.
If the game can be something that is not on GOG, then Fable 3. It's very easy, but quite entertaining :)

Edit. And it has John Cleese and Simon Pegg voicing :D

Oh.. Voice actors chance everything. It can (really it can). If Solid snake would be voiced by fucking jasper pääkkönen I would hang myself. =)

Sad but true. Voice acting can make me play a game I wouldn't touch normally.

On topic, no one mentioned TIM games yet. Complex *and* easy to play ;)
Well, I'm looking through my GOG shelf and here are the games I've found easiest to pick up and play without having to wade through a manual or the help section:

Tyrian 2000- It's an arcade game. Just shoot anything and everything that gets in your way. And its free, so you can't go wrong.

Screamer- A racer that is quite forgiving. It's not the deepest game by any means, but it's easy enough to get the hang of.

Heroes of Might and Magic- Someone else may have already mentioned this, but it truly is easy to get into.

Dream Pinball 3D- It's pinball. All you need to do is configure the flipper keys to your liking and you're all set. It may not be the best pinball game that GOG has t offer, but it's the only one I've purchased so far.
