ericshead: Count me among those odd ones without this title in their library ... until now. Don't know when I'll make time to play this (I just started Skyrim...); however, I'll do everyone a favour and press the [-1 sec] button before buying it, therefore I'm only adding TWO seconds to the timer.

Sound fair? Okay, thanks.
You've never played it? I honestly envy you.

The great thing about the game is that fourteen years later, I'm still finding new stuff in it. For instance, did you know that when you're dealing with the hostages in the subway station you can just sneak in and tell the hostages to get on the train and they will? I can just imagine the terrorists turning around and going, "Oh, crap, where are our hostages?!"

azrael-: So... with all the SS2 love going on around here, has anyone played the first game? I remember back in 1994 everyone was playing Doom 2, when I stumbled across this gem of a game called System Shock. I was spoilt for life.
I was working at Origin back in 1995 and played it so I could give out hints on it over the phone. I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time, though now every time I try to go back to it I think, "Man, I wish this game had mouselook." That's not to say that the game isn't good and and isn't worth your time; you're just gong to have to learn the interface.

Tooms: It works ok with xpadder. I used the setup talked about in this thread, but with reversed panning:

Oh yes, I adore System Shock 1 and dearly hope it will make it here. Played it again recently with the hi-resolution and mouselook patches, and those were all it needed it be perfect.

azrael-: The interesting thing about Deus Ex is the amount of people who haven't bought it yet. I'd have thought having Deus Ex in your library would be almost a requirement on GOG... ;-)

Perhaps someone is hoarding gift copies...?
I bought it (I'm part of the problem!) but only because I love GOG and have a near-infinite love of Deus Ex. I still have my original CD copy from when it came out, and I have it on Steam where I bought it at a ridiculously low sale price years ago, but seeing as Steam is the devil I thought I'd throw GOG a couple of bucks to buy some karma back.

But if there's anyone who didn't have it on GOG and *also* hasn't played it elsewhere... well, for shame!!

At this point, though, I think it'll take a deus ex machina to get the timer to run out...
My scientific estimate is that they have sold a CRAPLOAD of copies of Deus Ex. Still over two hours... geez...

A copy of Deus Ex in every pot, I guess.

Deus Ex has just gone under 2 hours!
The Deus Ex timer just dipped under 2 hours. Sacrilege!

Damn! Ninjaed... :-)

Nae worries, it just jumped back over 2 hours again. :)

EDIT: Seems to be struggling at the threshold now, though. Seeing a lot of -1s pop up still, too. So perhaps a new batch of users are signing on and chiming in.

I am so jealous of you getting to play it for the first time. I guess it might not have the impact to a newcomer now that it did when it came out, but it absolutely floored me back then. There are so many random things you can do that you think would break the game but it just keeps going. So many possible paths to follow.

Eye6Solomon: Last night, I set my alarm to go off every 1.5 hours. I did however missed one sale though. JAGGED ALLIANCE; I fell asleep before it was time to get it.
That's dedication, you may be able to trade a gift copy of something else for Jagged Alliance on the trade threads here if you wanted it though.
DEUS EX WILL NEVER DIE!

Seriously, though. Maybe this is all just a ploy to build anticipation for the 2001 game. What could it be... Baldur's Gate 2? Thief 2? No, those are 2000... Wizardry 8, perhaps?

*sharpening knife*

Has anybody seen a new face around here? No, no particular reason, just asking.

I concur on the confirmation for LoK gamepad info, thanks! and I remember reading about the SS1 hi-res and mouselook and other gameplay improvement patches, just don't remember where - since it's much easier to figure out how to download/install/setup those types of changes with instructions the first time around, any hint?

You worked at Origin? Wow! I envy you. Back in the day a game published by Origin was almost guaranteed to be great.

Could you perhaps point me to those patches? I'd love to have a go at SS1 with those (still have my SS1 CD version on prominent display :-).

On a side note, there are about three games I have on a wish list to be modified with hardware-accelerated 3D graphics and, to the extent it's necessary, get modernized controls. Those games are System Shock, Tomb Raider and Realms of the Haunting.

I also have Deus Ex on CD, on Steam and here (although I paid a bit more :-).

I must shamefully admit that I got those patches preinstalled in the "System Shock Portable" download. In my defense, I own three physical CDs of System Shock. :)

Working at Origin was great...until it wasn't. I basically got there just in time to watch EA gut the place. And I too now own disc, Steam and GOG versions of Deus Ex :)

System Shock Portable is one of the best things that ever happened to me. There I was, minding my own business, when suddenly our eyes met across a crowded room...
