blotunga: The only thing that I've noticed is that we had no games from the Insomnia sale which would be featured here. Right?
I don't have the Insomnia list handy, but these do seem to be different selections overall.
1999 - Heroes 3 Complete?

Mabfred: How come that Rayman is 1998 game? It was released in 1995, and the enhanced version in 1999...
avatar
retsuseiba: Because the only relevant Rayman games were released in 1998: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayman#Games
Well, you're right - it's not in the list you linked, but the original game article on Wikipedia states that Forever version was released "Around a year after Gold" which is from 1997.

My other post was meant to be a joke, but now that I actually did look it up, some sources say that Forever was released in 1998 (Mobygames, random Rayman wiki page) while others say 1999. Meh, probably not worth looking this sort of thing up by now.
And here I was thinking he was talking about English with Rayman.

nrjank: All of these Sierra games were notable 'oops, you died... again' games. The dreaded "Restore, Restart, Quit" box even got parodied by LucasArts in Monkey Island.

heh... rubber tree.

mkell_226: Mort: Funny, I didn't think you could die in a LucasArts adventure game!

Oswald: Well, maybe they're trying something new.

M: ...Want I should bury him?

O: Would you? It's bad for business just having him lie there!
Good ol' Secret of Monkey Island. There was one place in the game you could actually die. It took 10 minutes real time, and you either had to deliberately try to kill yourself for those 10 minutes, or just have a really poorly timed phone call distract you for that long.

mabrookes: I doubt Myst was more popular for the year as it was only on Mac in 1993 and regardless of popularity, and as a massive adventure fan, I would still say that Cannon Fodder is a more important game game for the year than any you mention. It is also unquestionably better known than those games, at least here anyway.
That's kind of funny as I've never heard of Cannon Fodder until just now but I heard of and played all of the other listed games and pretty much everyone I knew had one or more of them. :) Depends on who you are and where you live perhaps how things were distributed and popularized. ;)

My bad, I missed the joke :-)
That's the professional deformation, when you spend your days researching
Hmm, missed Jagged Alliance. I probably would have picked it up at that price. Oh well.
I see that the green pulses have now changed to an actual pop-up with seconds added or deleted... that's a small improvement ;-)

It was very big in the UK at the time (and somewhat controversial with the Moral Guardians). I guess it wasn't so big in North American countries.

I as well.

Agreed, and I just noticed that today as well. I suspect other people were seeing it sooner, as there were posts about actual amounts of seconds being added or subtracted (along the lines of "+104 seconds?! STOP BUYING THIS!!!").
Any guesses for 1999? My own would be Unreal Tournament: GOTY Edition.

It started showing for me only today as well. Glad I'm not the only one, for a moment I wondered if my eyesight was deteriorating so badly that I somehow managed to completely not spot it before :-)

Do you use Firefox? I think there was a bug in GOG's javascript that affected Firefox users until they fixed it.
