Gremmi: My experience is that if you're not a known quantity, you're going to get a whole heap of apathy. I'm part of an ongoing charity project, and in an attempt to raise awareness we promoted it on a couple of forums (in fact, it wasn't even really promotion at that stage, merely just asking for feedback). The places where we weren't really known about already came back with harshness and negativity - for a charity project - and treated us like we'd somehow said something bad about their mothers or something, as if they'd been personally wronged by it.
Wow. That's ridiculous. I guess everyone needs to lengthen their internet cock in some way, even if it means badmouthing charities :P

gameon: The more backers he gets, the more the confidence will grow. So come on GOG forum users, help out a fellow user, and perhaps he will be able to give us an exclusive game for GOG?
That's the hope! I mean, if I was able to release it on GOG, I doubt I'd bother with a release anywhere else. I haven't contacted GOG about it yet, since I'm not sure if I'll get the funding or not.

And yeah... even if you guys don't have money to give, sharing the kickstarter link would be just as helpful. It's already buried, so there's little to no chance that anyone will actually find it via kickstarter.

KillingMachine: I'm thinking it's the "I need people to give me money to buy a computer" thing that sets people off. I'm not saying you should be dishonest, but people should feel more like "I'm giving you money for your time and development costs". I think it would be fine for you to just say that you need funds to help offset some of the hardware/software costs of development. Its saying the same thing, but sounds much better.
Yeah, you're probably right about this. I'll go over what I say in the kickstarter to see if there's a better way to word things.

gameon: It would be a nice special surprise bonus for people here, especially due to the fact it would be unique that a forum member actually made an exclusive game for GOG. It could be done as a christmas gift to all GOG users or something like that.

I hope GOG would take it seriously. I liked the look of that 2d shooter you did, so i am sure that you could make a fun game.
I hope so too. I'm not sure what sort of business-related things would be involved in getting my game hosted, however. It's possible that a more informal developer such as myself just wouldn't be in any place to sign up with GOG. Most of the indie devs they have here are the "bigger" ones.

If they do distribute it, it would basically be a dream come true.
Anyway going back on topic, if you want some nice destruction, check out Cortex Command. I can't recommend this game enough as an example of a 2D platformer with some insane physics.

The physics and environmental destruction in that game were both fantastic, and I had a ton of fun playing around with the. I never did reconcile myself to it in the gameplay department, though. It felt like it was jam-packed with potential, but too clunky to actually play.

'course, what I played was an alpha version. I haven't checked it out in awhile.

Woah... props to Xyem! Guess who's going to have a secret level in their honor? :)
Me?

:D

You mentioned wanting it to be on GOG (where's the wishlist thing so I can vote for it?!) so that means DRM free (yay!) and the engine and HIB means there might be a native Linux port. How can I not support that?!

Plus I can appreciate what it is like to have a machine that doesn't quite do what you want. Your current one must be really underpowered if you can't run screen capture at full speed..
By the way, not sure if this might be any use, but I'm actually working through some training for character modelling to help a friend with her animation. Maybe I could help out in some way using that?
It's great to aim high, and I would gladly throw you a few bucks if I could spare it (an imminent housing move is sapping all my spare funds), but I do think aiming for the Humble Bundle is a tad unrealistic. One of the chief complaints about it is that it really only caters to the so-called 'super-indies', those who are already well-established or highly promoted. But I guess if you don't try, you'll never know.

Perhaps his game could be one of those freebies/bonuses they give out after a while ;)

That could be quite helpful, actually. Thanks!
Can you add new reward tiers after it has started?

I believe so. I'm not sure what I could give as a higher reward, however. Any suggestions?

I know. I'm shooting for that, but I'm not really counting on it, if you know what I mean.

It's actually a low tier reward. I'll PM you the details of my idea..
Well, I think I'm going to cancel the kickstarter. I'd probably just leave it open until the deadline just for the heck of it, but I've been toying around with just doing a straight remake of Nurf Nerfus in Gamemaker Pro (keeping it 2d, but recoding it from the ground up with loads of improvements and additions). And you know what? It actually seems like it's gonna turn out really well (some screenshots of what I've done so far are attached. Wall graphics are placeholders). Would I prefer to do an FPS? Well, sure. But I really doubt that I'll end up being able to do that right now, so I might as well re-focus my efforts on something I can do at the moment, and maybe earn a little cash / get a little more experience while I save up for a new computer the "hard" way.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and supported this attempt, and special thanks to Gameon for being so proactive about publicizing it, lowyhong for giving me a little special treatment in his kickstarter thread, and Xyem for making such a generous donation. This may not have worked out, but Nurf Nerfus 3d WILL ride again someday! And for the straight remake I'm going to do, I think I'll still try to get it hosted on GOG. Might as well, right?

EDIT: only one screenshot is showing up for some reason.
