They released a Patch
Good stuff.

Every dev/publisher needs to do this after a year or so. I would never complain about DRM if they did.
Why did they release this patch just after the Steam autumn sale?! -_-;
amazon still has it (download-able) for $20 so I guess it's one of those semi-perm "discounts".

I think I will finally pick it up, even though "no DRM" patches are usually great big flashing signs saying "no longer receiving active support".

Well how much more support do you want really? They patched the original game a couple times, then released a massive patch/expansion in Dragon Knight Saga, then release two patches for that.

No developer supports forever.
uhhh ... my point was simply that I was gonna finally pick it now that it has semi-offically become over the hill, which is kinda pathetic because I've had my eye on this game since it came out.

I actually own the original Ergo Draconus release but played it less than I actually played the demo for DKS ... I bought it after DKS came out, but thought that I was actually buying DKS and didn't realize that Impulse was pulling a fast one (this was days before Stardock went public about the gamestop sale) until I started playing it and couldn't get it to run any better than "mostly crappy" despite the Demo working just fine.

I've been waiting for the game to go on uber-sale (like, less than $20) in an attempt to minimize the monetary damage to the realm of "at least I didn't pay more than full price". the CE for Elemental (don't laugh) at least came with a cool dragon miniature, and Witcher 2 came with two free GOGs and paper crafts: If I'm gonna pay $60 for a game it damned well better have some premo extras.

I got an artbook for my copy of DKS and I only paid 35 bucks for the game I think.

Uhm DKS has been on sale several times, it's been sold at $15 twice on steam this year in fact. Dunno about amazon (I rarely ever buy games there anymore since even when it might be cheaper it means I have to pay $15 in international shipping, thus making all savings futile) but I'm sure you can find copies of it on the cheap somewhere. As for the DRM-free thing, wouldn't that .exe work with the steam version?

Seems it works with the steam version indeed:

Not sure if it removes the Steam protection or just secuROM though.

Apparently the Steam version has no actual hooks to Steam -- You can just install it via steam and then launch it from the exe, no steam required. You should be able to grab it for $15 or so come the xmas sale if you're interested :)

You would still need to activate during the install, which is a "hook."
Took them quite a long time, I've almost given up on that promised patch.
Great news though ^_^
So happy they followed through on this promise. This game is so great , a lot of people didn't get it because of the secuROM .
Now to wait until it goes on another very steep sale.

Cost them my purchase.

Really doesn't hurt me, too little free time, too long a game backlog...
A Hungarian game magazine's just given it as the bundled game for their latest issue, and I think it's also DRM-free (I'm not sure, as I already had the DVD version, but my brother has installed the bundled one, so I can just ask him when he gets home) but for everyone who doesn't have that version, it's a really cool move!
Perhaps now more people will be inclined to experience Bellegar's antics... I mean, the game.
