Me and my wife saw it on Saturday, and it was well worth the money. Excellent special effects, a gripping story, and the "Holy shit!" moments never seem to stop.

ovoon: I went with my dad and the kids I used to babysit :P (11,13) and their dad. So yea it shouldn't be too bad... theres incredible amounts of gore and grossness, and they drop the f bomb 100 times a second, but they say it with an english accent so it sounds like "fawk"

there are so many things wrong in that paragraph that... er.. what can you say.
I think i'll confine myself to "english accent"???

It's like playing Resistance on my PSP. =)

Fawking bighters!
and many more!
District 9 was an outstanding movie

to illustrate:
"All the shacks in District 9 were actual shacks that exists in a section of Johannesburg which were to be evacuated and the residents moved to better government housing, paralleling the events in the film."
Was that good or bad.....?

I have no idea. I'm not from south africa.
Well, after some of your comments, I have to see D9 now.
The premise reminds me of Alien Nation; an old 80's movie I personally didn't like much at all, being just a buddy-cop-flick in a weak sci-fi dressing. Still, I am willing to give District 9 a chance. I will have to wait for it to come to DVD or Blu-ray though, since there are no cinemas or theatres around here. Looks interesting.

this was a very refreshing movie
it was unlike any other movie i've seen (the second half turned into a little more standard actiony flick, but an awesome one.)

Alien Nation the movie was average, but the tv show rocked. (at least at the time... )
Damn, why are our distributors overlooking those best quality movies (cinema premiere is not set yet, rumors says at the end of September...). And I guess that another potentially very good movie "Moon" won't come to ours cinemas at all...

Rohan15: Not every remake sucks you know.

Ois: *Where the intention is a deliberate remake... There may be films that went across, but most semblance of the original is gone.

indeed , think @ the italian job.
The remake surpassed the original but the original is more believeable.
Haven't seen a science fiction film this good since T2: Judgment Day.
