Gragt: I got a really bad feeling about this, especially when I read this bit again at http://rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=27137
In an interview with Edge magazine, published tomorrow, Dugas says the original Deus Ex was “kind of slow”. He added, “There weren’t enough exciting, memorable moments. It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience.
It will likely be like this image shows.

The first Deus Ex was slow... doesn't mean that's a bad thing. Deus Ex was a success because of the story, not the game play.
I love a good twitch game as much as the next person, but not every game with a first person view point has to be designed for a meth head suffering from ADHD and hopped up on speed. Well with that in mind I'm thinking I'll load up UT2004 with some speed modulators, tonight. ;)

That picture sadly looks like it. What were they thinking when they played the game, are they braindead? I'll bet that Deus Ex 3 will feel a million times slower because of bad writing and gameplay.

Not true. Look how DXIW turned out, even though others claimed the story was decent. Like all other great games, it wasn't just one factor that led it to greatness. It was an amalgamation of all. It was way ahead of its time due to so many paths to one solution (vents, bribery, direct confrontation etc). Then there was the coolness of being a secret agent for the UN. The maps, despite utilizing the Unreal engine, were fabulously engineered, and were believable - carparks looked like carparks, hotels looked like hotels. et cetera.
There was a real sense of danger, especially in Paris. You never knew when you'd be detected. The game doesn't hold your hand at all.
Basically, what Eidos is doing to DX3 is taking out almost everything that made DX2 great, then ripping it to shreds, peeing on it, and proceeding to make another generic first person shooter with some semblance of dialogue.

Pretty damn amazing picture. So true, so true.

you don't know how happy I was to hear that EA lost the Lord Of The Rings license a few months ago...
From what I have read about DX3 it would seem that it will be catered to people easily entertained by !!!!EXPLOSIONS!!!! and flashy gimmicks.
For example, the main character will be able to have a biomod (or some other modification) that will allow him to have tentacles coming out of his back. It seems like Eidos is going to ripping off The Darkness on that score. Also tentacles = lots of really bad Rule 34 pics. Also, this game is being billed as a prequel but it appears it will have better tech than its supposed sequels.
I wish they would just leave the damn franchise alone if they cannot come up with any decent ideas.
And to that asshat who said that the first game was too slow for him, someone please relieve him of his job because he does not deserve to be designing games.
I thought he was going to do like Michael Bay, saying it needs more BOOOOM and then some WOOOOOSH and then you can do stuff like WHAAAAAAM and if you have this biomod then it's like WOOOOOOOW!

Sounds like Todd Howard as well....
Oh yeah! Todd Howard is like the Michael Bay of video games.

DX:IW (AKA DX2) a great game? Are you sure we were playing the same game? =p
Needs more prayers.
Deus Ex did not play slow. Someone else nailed it, there were times when you felt legit stress because there was so much to avoid/kill etc. and other times where you got to think about the story, talk to people and engage in a very intriguing world.
Deux Ex 2 wasn't that bad for me. Definitely a disappointment considering the exceptional quality of the first (I consider a top 10 game of all-time) but still better than a lot of other games.
I haven't heard or read much on Deus Ex 3, but from what you guys are reporting I am getting a little worried...which is why this thread needs more prayers!

Sorry let me rephrase that.
Not true. Look at how shitty DXIW was, even though others claimed the story was decent. Like all other great games, DX1 wasn't just one factor that led it to greatness.

I wouldn't be surprised if DX3 contained sex scenes that did not respect the subject at hand...
Expect to see tons of marketing jargon cliches being thrown around "grim, dark, GRIMDARK, gritty, mature, mature grittiness, gritty maturity" et al.

I'm crossing my fingers for a good fan-made remake/sequel, in the spirit of the the upcoming fan-made remake of Half Life, Black Mesa (System Shock Source! It's even alliterated..), and some of the better HL2-mods out there, like Minerva..
It's a bit sad, but I tend to put more store in fan-made stuff, than "professional" developer stuff. OK, the professional developer may have more skilled people (but not necessarily by much..) but the fan-made stuff does not cater to the "box-office is all" kind of people, who wants games to be made to fit both grandma, Mary Sue and DarkGr1mANG3L666ROFL, but the "real" gamers.. The gamers who wants the games to be good, AND in the same vein as the original..
And with the skill some of these people have, and the availability of physic engines and whatnot, the technical contents of the game can be just as good, or better, than that of the professionals..

As long as the fan-made stuff doesn't feature "amateur voice acting"...*shudder*
