MobiusArcher: I guess im alone in my opinions here. In my defense, I prefer military sci-fi over any other sci-fi, so am more likely to like a military sci-fi plot. Also, (and im aware that im wrong in dooing this) i usually group plot and storytelling together, and just refer to it as plot. Halo did have good storytelling.
Seriously though, you guys don't need get all nasty. I never said any of your favorite games sucked. The closest i came was saying that Deus Ex isn't much of a shooter, and i don't think that's a bad thing. Calling it a shooter is a disservice to that game.
Most of us didn't say Halo sucked. Just that it's story was extremely generic and cliched, and that Deus Ex's was allot better.
What Halo's story had going for it was excellent generic action movie presentation. That's really it. Tons of witty and memorable one liners in place of dialogue, good cutscenes, and a protagonist that oozes badass to the point that he doesn't even have a name. (Well he does, but it's only mentioned in the books. Which are typo ridden and badly written.) The plot is really just a vehicle for generic military badassery.
The only thing that's well and truely bad about Halo is the fact that it basically killed Bungie as a developer.
They used to be known for innovation, with Marathon, Myth, and Oni in development but for Halo they suddenly decided to sell their souls to Microsoft and make three generic cash cows in a row.
They completely abandoned what made them great. Now they're just trying to cash in on their previous success with the Lego Halo crap.
