TheCheese33: Of course MMOs are dying. There's so many of them that it's impossible to build up and retain a large group of subscribers!
I really feel for EA. For the first time in years, they're trying to innovate like crazy. And because of this hole lending has put us in, companies like Activision who pump out generic title after generic title are getting all the money, while EA's brilliant innovative titles aren't selling! I wish everyone would buy Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Skate 2 and Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 so EA can continue redefining games. Alas, it doesn't look like that will happen, and they'll have to go back to making generic, unoriginal content. Hope Madden 10 pulls them through...

My sarcasm detector is a bit wonky here from the nicotine deprivation headache I am suffering, but , you are being sarcastic, right????

TheCheese33: I hate Activision so much that I'll go any lengths to support anyone. Besides, I love all the recent games EA has put out. Red Alert 3, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, and Skate 2 were all very awesome. Activision killed Zork, they made Guitar Hero suck, and they almost killed Ghostbusters. Oh, yes, shit's goin' down.

Activision are boy scouts compared to EA! And stating that you hope for Madden 10 to pull them through, to keep them from making generic, unoriginal content?!? Do you not see the irony?

I wish I was. Activision's pushed me over the edge. Pretty soon, I'll have fecal matter strewn all over the walls, and I'll be humming the Magnum P.I. theme to myself while I take my copy of World at War, put the disc in the blender, and feed the remains to my dog.
EDIT: They ruined Zork, they ruined Zork, they ruined Zork, they ruined Zork, they ruined Zork...
(realizes Madden 10 reference was completely bone-headed)
ANOTHER EDIT: If I don't see a white house with a mailbox soon...

I'm sorry but EA and innovative don't quite seem to belong in the same sentence. And just how did Activision ruin Zork? The other stuff.....well that was just TMI for me hehehe..
When I was little Zork Grand Inquisitor came out and my granddad bought it for me. I played it for hours and hours and hours. It's the one game I still continue to play, getting new things out of it every time. I have beaten it 300 times and counting. I could probably give you the solution to a complicated puzzle off the top of my head, in vivid detail.
I went on to play all the other Zorks, and loved every milisecond of them, but kept coming back to Grand Inquisitor. Activision never followed up. The property is buried somewhere in their deepest, darkest vaults.
If a sequel doesn't come out soon, I don't know what I'll do to that damned CEO...

And what would happen if the sequel did come out and it sucked in your esteemed opinion? What would happen to that hapless CEO??

In reality, nothing. I'm too much of a coward, and we all know that threats by people on forums never follow through.
In my mind, though, I'm beating the bejeesus out of him with a Perma-Suck vacuum. After I have my fill, I stick him in an Electric Totemizer and walk away triumphant.

You might not want to wholly blame Activision for this whole "Zork is Dead" thing. When the FPS genre was getting more and more advanced, moving into actual 3d rather than the usual 2.5d it was using, that was the death-knell for all adventure games, not just Zork and any possible sequels.

That didn't stop Myst. Ubisoft was glad to help make IV (which was awesome), and it sold quite well.
Maybe Ubisoft could snatch up Zork...

He's right you know. When adventure games become popular again (LOL! yea right!) Zork will return.

I don't know how Ubisoft did it. They're French, they probably have some French voodoo that only they know how to wield properly. Anyone else wielding French voodoo could destroy the entire universe. Maybe Ubisoft sent a female PR rep to everyone's house to personally deliver a wet "thank you" for buying their reiteration of Myst. That could explain why Ubisoft isn't as hated as EA or ActiBlizz. I hope that poor PR rep's knees aren't completely worn out because I just went on a Ubisoft shopping spree......5 years ago....

MobiusArcher: Im probably going to cause this thread to turn into a big argument, but i just have to say it...
Halo has the greatest sci-fi plot I've ever come across in a game, and the second one only makes it better. I haven't played the third one yet though, so i cant comment on it.

Weclock: Play yourself some Marathon, and also System Shock 2.

Yeah. After System Shock 1 or 2, you'll chuck that shiny thing called Halo into the bin.

Don't forget Deus Ex a far superior shooter that Halo only dreams of becoming...

Deus Ex is an awesome game, but the plot isn't as good as Halo's. Its not much of a shooter either. I have been meaning to play marathon though. Bungie did release it as freeware after all. Im wondering how many of you guys hate Halo just because it wasn't originally a PC game, or just because of the stereotypical Halo player being... well, you know how they are.

Halo doesn't have a plot. And how the hell is Deus Ex's plot not as good as Halo's pathetic attempt at one?
Halo: Kill everything while driving around in difficult to control vehicles. The aliens are coming.......again. They're going to take over the Earth.............again.
Deus Ex: You can choose to either kill, stun, or to completely avoid combat all the while figuring out who is behind the Gray Death, why people are trying to kill your brother, what *are* the motivations of organizations such as the NSF?
