JCD-Bionicman: I googled it and it looks like ubunto is getting some sort of gaming support indeed.

If steam's doing it, GOG is definitally doing it.
Did you really think that both being on the 18th was a coincidence?
Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 coming to Linux is old news for me by now. What I am interested in is GOG finally supporting Linux, and simply because Steam is doing it does not mean that GOG will be doing it as well, regardless of how much I would like that to be true in this case.

The "new" OS is not Mac, so that narrows things down considerably. Combined with the fact that Ubuntu's update is scheduled for the same date as the announcement, the conclusion is obvious.

And I don't know what you mean by Steam support, but unless I misunderstood, you're an idiot. Don't know what you're doing here if your just looking for a Steam key.

GOG should refrain from making any deals with damn Valve at all.

Whoops, that was an error on my part. It was past 2:00 in the morning. I don't want GOG to support Steam, I want GOG to support Linux. GOG > Steam for me. I too read it as Mac OS support and "a new operating system" being separate pieces of news, but everybody else seems to believe it's either Mac OS or Windows 8 due to GOG's vehement opposition to supporting Linux.

Why do they oppose Linux?

eagarza12: It would be nice if GOG starts supporting BOTH Linux and OSX. I'm starting to see more and more interest in Linux over the last year. There must be an audience because pretty much every game in the Humble Bundles are now offered for Linux. Plus, notice the games in development for Kickstarter are all promising a native Linux version. The recently released FTL is a good example of this.

If GOG and Steam went to Linux I could FINALLY totally ditch Windows. I've tried before, but I love playing games so dual boot is as far as I can go right now.

Any thoughts?

Future_Suture: I very much agree but GOG has stated again and again in the past that Linux would be too much effort to support to their high standards. The Linux request also has more votes than the Mac OS request and Windows 8 request combined. Some have already stated that if they don't get the game for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS, that they will buy their games where they do get the game for all three major operating systems. That number is only going to increase.
They can do with the help of Ubuntu.
My hopes are high for Linux. They can start my supporting only Ubuntu. And behind Ubuntu there is Canonical and behind Canonical there is a millionare man Mark Shuttleworth.

He has done much for free software world my founding Ubuntu. This way masses met with Linux with easy installation and easy usage. Even i started to use Linux thanks to Ubuntu.

Mark Shuttleworth won't stop just getting Ubuntu to many people. But he will reach the masses known as gamers too i think. Ubuntu and GOG.com co-operation is highly possible.

Big things are coming for Linux in the upcoming days. Desura, Humble Bundle, Steam and now i hope GOG.com.

Linux is the way to go for gamers and developers. No cost, better performance, openness.

Just think about it. Buy a computer, download and install ubuntu in 10-20 minutes. Launch Steam or GOG.com games and start playing as you like. No MS restrictions, no Windows 8 Metro, no unknown bullshit version of Microsoft, no locked-in shops.

GOG could make a massive trollface by announcing iOS support. DotEmu's been busy in that area lately http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-last-express/id508049561?mt=8

Read this.
I hope the new OS is not android... Really.

TheEnigmaticT: Everyone in EA doesn't say that. One guy says that. And I have no idea who he's talking to, but he's not talking to the same people we're talking to.

Fuzzyfireball: Start talkin to the people he's talkin to and get the people you're talkin to to talk to the people he's talkin to so everyone is talkin to each other!

That I agree with. Supporting Ubuntu in a platform agnostic way like Steam will sounds like a good plan.
Is there any chance of bringing more heavy weight publishers/devs to GoG?(Bethesda, Lucas arts, Microsoft game Studios)

I sure hope we have those in the years to come... I'd love me some elders scrolls on gog.

JCD-Bionicman: Why do they oppose Linux?
Rational Justifications =/= Vehement Opposition. The post that Future_Suture's linked to was a totally justifiable reason for GOG *at present* to not support Linux, or Mac OS X for that matter – and being a Mac user, I totally agree. Yes, I want native OS X support with GOG, but if and only if they can do so with the same level of support that they have for Windows, and while still being able to maintain their ability to bring both classic and indie games to their catalog at their current pace.

Maybe things have changed and they've been able to secure the resources to bring forward a good push into Linux or OS X; I certainly hope they have.

Oh, and WTF is it with people downrepping JCD_Bionicman's prior post? I've given him some +rep to try to balance it out.
