CD Projekt RED and GOG.com Special Event: 18 October 2012 at 18:00 GMT

New Games, New OSes, Cyberpunk® Announcements, and Something Special for Witcher 2 Modders--and more!--will all be announced at this live webcast Special Event.

The developers of The Witcher franchise CD Projekt RED studio and GOG.com the DRM-free, digital distribution platform will host a Special Event on the 18th of October at 18:00 (GMT). The whole event will be streamed online on facebook.com/thewitcher or www.gog.com.

During the conference the developer studio will announce the official name of their futuristic new IP, based on the classic pen & paper RPG Cyberpunk®. More exclusive details about the project will be shown.

Not only console and PC users should tune in for the conference. Mac Computer users should be prepared for a bunch of thrilling announcements including more information about the upcoming release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for OS X.

Speaking of new operating systems, GOG.com will also be announcing that it is bringing the best PC games from throughout history to a new operating system. That’s not all of the news that GOG.com has planned for the Special Event, however: they will also be showcasing several new releases as well as giving gamers a unique chance to get some of the greatest classic games ever made for a literally unbeatable price.

Remember – the live stream from the CD Projekt RED and GOG.com Special Event starts October 18th, 18:00 (GMT). See you then!
I don't see the big deal for Windows 8 really, do some people have an OCD for having the absolute latest OS version on their computer, even if it breaks compatibility for older games/software?

Who gives a toss, from what I've read Windows 8 structurally does not enhance the Windows operating system, it just adds a more "accessible" (see: Fisher Price) user interface, bundled with their own "app store" DRM machine. Screw that.
Calling it that its gog games for linux
then again they are announcing mac os stuff so yea.

Karocage: What does officially support Windows 8 even mean? A label on the box? Congrats, we didn't break anything that worked before on Windows 7? Or are you actually expecting some sort of support for the Windows Store etc?
Personally I'd welcome support for the Metro interface, i.e. big, nice artwork tiles instead of crappy little icons you normally get for old style apps.
"Because they can" seems like a weak reason to disappoint all your users by announcing something that already exists by default after building up hype for a "new OS".
I was referring to experience from previous big announcements, which usually were lesser ir bigger letdowns. Many people are now used to it and don't let the hype fool them.

(don't get me wrong, I like the conferences and appreciate the work, but sometimes too much is too much)

RafaelLopez: There's no place for this in a paid service. Either they do support it fully where offered or don't offer it at all.

I'm thinking they might offer Linux or Mac support where originally available (ie. games intentionally released for this or that platform) or where easily portable (ie. most DOS games probably work well on Linux DOSBox).
Unsupported is indeed the wrong word and misleading, untested fits it better. GOG said they can't and don't want do testings for that systems (beside the oldies they test also all indie and new games) like they do for windows, that's why we don't see them here while they are available. It's just the question how they can show that they keep their high principles for windows and offer mac and linux games like every other shop, and here I believe the solution is to put this versions in the second line and add them as a bonus.

Unfortunately the only way you can properly integrate your program into the new UI like that is if you actually sell it through the Windows Store.

Wow, that sucks. Big time.

welverin: Does this mean you'll pay us to take the games from you?

RafaelLopez: Whenever I see a Ultima-related avatar pic I fear they'll someday give away *MY* avatar pic that *I* made back when there was still no Ultima on the site as a form of reminder/protest/request. Yes, I'm saying I think everyone is looking to copy my avatar pic like I legally owned the likeness of the Ultima 7 avatar alone.
It's funny you say that, because I made mine myself as well, and it always annoys me when a site doesn't allow custom avatars. I also have one from a painting in U9 I occasionally use.

Origin was the one exception, because they already had Avatar avatars.

Asbeau: GOG & Android, eh? Cool.
This would be extremely awesome.

You did well.... You did well.
As a full-time Linux user, I'd rather they work on getting licensing to more older games instead of "porting" to Linux. A good portion of their catalog works natively in Linux as is, thanks to DOSBox and ScummVM. And the majority of the remaining games play in WINE without a hitch.

It would require a significant effort to port their games to Linux (or even OS X I feel like)... so unless they're just porting the installer (which runs fine in WINE anyways), my guess is this is a lame way to tout Windows 8 support.
So Cyberpunk is coming out on consoles too?

I remember reading an article somewhere saying it was confirmed for PS3 and 360 but I can't find it again. Might just be my imagination.
Can't wait: I love Cyberpunk and I really like how CD Projekt RED studio developed The Witcher.

So yea indeed. It's not going to be Linux. That would be quite the change of mind that GOG would have had otherwise.

Nothing in Wine is without a hitch.

Or if it's a web browser that contains both UIs and use the UI of the environment you launch it from. I believe Chrome is the first third-party browser to do so (don't know if that feature has reached Chrome stable yet, or even beta, might be only dev channel still).
