I did search the forum but not much came up, so I'm not sure if this has been discussed beforehand.

I've never really been interested in sandbox games myself, only played a bit of GTA:SA back in the day (and of course the originals, if those count). The other day I bought Bully on the Steam sale but found it rather poor (mainly due to the horrible port). I also tried GTA IV and even though it ran decently on my PC, it was yet another horrible port.

As a result I had pretty much given up on sandbox games, but about a week ago I got Just Cause 2 and have been absolutely loving it. Some of the most fun I've ever had with a game. From what I've been hearing from people here, you lot tend to prefer the original over the sequel. How come?

I've also looked at a few trailers for Saints Row 3 (I haven't played any of the other ones) and it looks pretty fun. Will probably get it at launch. What about the rest of the games in the series?

Is LA:N worth getting when it finally comes on the PC? I'd love to play Red Dead, but I don't have a console.

Anything else to recommend?
LA: Noire isn't a sandbox so be aware of that. You might want to look at Fallout: New Vegas if you haven't already.

The Saints Row games are among my favorite games of the last decade, but the PC port of SR2 is horrible.

Well, they copied everything else from GTA, why not this? :P
It depends on what you mean by "sandbox game" I suppose. If you want a real sandbox game, buy Minecraft.

No, if you want a real sandbox game, buy Eve Online. :)
Minecraft
X3 Terran conflict
Stalker series

BTW saints row 3 is built from the ground up for PC so hopefully it should play well on PC
Just Cause 1 wasn't (too) bad, but JC2 is fairly superior.

And i kinda like that medieval simulators.... Mount&Blade(s) :)

And Space Rangers.

As far as I know Eve takes place in space, but in Minecraft you can actually dig in sand ;-)
If your desperate you could try one of Derek Smart's Battlecruiser3000AD or Universal Combat games (They're free now, although even at that price you'd still feel ripped off)
Are there any other developers out there for more like GTA style games, apart from SR and JC obviously?

I've tried many of the games that you guys suggested but I was thinking of more of a 'Rockstar' formula perhaps.
Got a console? Try Red Dead Redemption.
Btw, Red Faction Guerrilla is an excellent sandbox game.

This x10284. Red Faction Guerrilla is a lot of fun.
I could've suggested MIdwinter, Flames of Freedom and Ashes of Empire lineup but, I assumed you need workable controls. Also they're a bit old.
