OK, so just searching around the internet, and I found this (to me) AWESOME computer deal. What I'm really wondering is will I be able to sell it for at least as much as I bought it for in like 2 years?
Here's the specs (I'm not gonna just post a link cause someone else might buy it lol ;)
AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 2.4Ghz Processor
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9100
250GB HD
DVD/RW Drive
No operating system but I'm planning on using Ubuntu, then installing Windows 7 before I sell it. Right now the bid is $123.50 with $37.00 shipping and only 21 hours left. Based on previous bids I'll probably be able to get it for right around $200.
What I really want to know is will it be worth more than $300 2 years from now? ($200 base + $100 for Windows 7)

Keep it. It a few dozen centuries it could be worth a lot of money.
EDIT: Wait, you are buying this? Dunno, the processor and memory look somewhat okay, but I can't really say good words about the GPU.

Taking a look, the only geforce 9100 I can find is a notebook card

Didn't feel like looking up the processor (I am more of an intel guy)
That being said, I feel pretty confident when I say that you won't be selling this for 300 bucks in 2 years.

As a computer to use it seems reasonable for the price but I'd check the motherboard to make sure you can upgrade the video card, a 9100 sounds like an onboard, might not have a PCIe x16 slot
As an investment, I can only say one thing: Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!
You don't ever sell computers for as much as you bought them for unless they become extremely rare. Seal it in a lead lined safe then set off a lassive EMP that fries most of the worlds tech then it might be viable

If the system is brand new and you're not going to overclock it then you could probably get that for it.
Are we talking about a laptop here? Because the GPU is an on board one. If it's a desktop then you should seriously think about upgrading that. If it's a laptop then I really hope you're not buying it as a modern gaming system. Because the 9 series is about as bad as Nvidia have ever been and the 9100 is the worst of the lot.

The 9100 is an onboard, but (completely seriously) about the most graphics intensive thing I'd do is play FreeSpace Open.
And I'm not really doing this as an investment. I'm buying it cause I want a pretty good computer. And let me tell you...ANYTHING is pretty good compared to what I've been using. (We're talking 512MB RAM, 1.8Ghz, VIA S3 UniChrome PRO video.)
So obviously this computer will blow that out of the water. I'm just wondering about what it'd be worth in two years, cause that's when I'll be going to college and I'd like to get a laptop then.
Forgot to say that it does have an extra PCIe x16 slot.

Well just get it and keep it, it's pretty damn good price. And if motherboard is decent, you can still eventually upgrade.

That's a solid everday use computer but not great for multimedia.
It doesn't matter how much ram there is with a weak videocard and that's one of the weakest quad cores. As a rule, pretty much all first gen phenom 9xxxx quad cores get beaten by the base Q6600 intel core 2 quad (for which I may say still has great value and performs very well with new games despite it being a generation old and the base model at the time).
Still for $200 I would totally pick it up.
2.8GHz intel P4 machines are around $30 these days so in two years no, not worth $200.

that graphics card is utterly worthless. with that, it won't be worth anything in a couple of years.
but you can probably get one for $60 that will play any current game, especially with that quad core and all that ram. i got a 9600gt 2 years ago that is just starting to slow down, and it was $60 then. if I were you, i'd get a badass graphics card for like $150, and you'll have a high end dedicated gaming computer for less than $400(!!!)

Probably an exaggeration. :P But the P4 was a pretty horrible processor all in all.

They sell for $35-$50 at second hand shops where I live so I'm not really exggerating at all.
Probably 2.4GHz at $35 but still for a regular office dekstop you can't go wrong.

Good to know, because my AMD garbage is capable of running every recently realased game i tried in highest resolution and maxed settings, while being significantly cheaper then nvidia. I'll stick to my garbage then.

I was referring to the CPU, indeed. For graphics card I always prefer NVIDIA, even though recent Radeon cards have been huge hits...
