If this is true, then I'm speechless. That is some scary stuff right there.
But I thought EA was bigger than Apple. Or have I been deluding myself?
i doubt it, highly.

Weclock: i doubt it, highly.

It's all analyst jargon, so there's a good chance that it isn't true. But if it is...
*shudder*
They deserve each other. :P
The reliability of this information seems to be along the lines of "my sister's boyfriend's cousin said..." Until there's anything said that can be traced back to an Apple or EA representative this should really be regarded as nothing more than a baseless rumor.

EA isn't even in same league as Apple as Apple's Net income exceeds EA's entire yearly revanue by billion USD and Apple has almost 10 times the revanue of EA so financially it's entirely possible. EA's income was also almost half billion in the minus last year (but that may be due to aquisitions).

But what the hell would Apple do with EA? Start making games for Mac? Make Mac ports of every EA Game ever made? EA does sit on massive mountain of IP it have aquired over the years so who knows?

Learn all about the dark side ?
I'd be almost tempted to install itunes if could buy powermonger, populous & syndicate on it. I wouldn't really DO it but I'd be tempted
I'm guessing that if this is true, the reasoning behind it is trying to turn the iphone into a game machine. Most probably they'd largely leave EA alone and just release bucketloads of crap for the iphone.

I did not know EA was big player in mobile game development. I would think buying several good mobile game/app studios would be wiser and more effective choise not to mention they would be more innovative than monolithic EA. Also producing crap on their own platform would seem counterproductive.

Yep, and to go into this a bit more EA's current market cap is $6.8 billion, while Apple's is $119 billion. Hell, Apple's net income for 2008 was $4.8 billion (compare that number to EA's market cap). Apple could eat EA for breakfast if they wanted to. However, as what EA does is pretty far removed from Apple's core business (and expertise), Apple probably wouldn't be looking at any kind of meaningful ROI, so there would be absolutely no motivation for them to buy EA, even though they could easily do so.
sounds like a good idea to me. and i don't even have a mac...
I dislike Apple, so this would only be a good move for me if they managed to open up EA's vault of old games to the world (preferably via GOG).
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Apple at least has common sense, something which EA can't seem to find. I suspect Apple would begin selling some of the older games.

In EA's defense (I can't believe I'm typing this...), they may have acquired a small dose of common sense. BioWare (now part of the EA collective, remember) has just announced the copy protection for their upcoming RPG, Dragon Age:Origins, will be a simple disc check. No SecuROM, no TAGES, no StarForce, no limited activations, no phone home scheme. Just a disc check. Gotta say I like the sounds of that.
As for Apple EAting EA... seems a bit far fetched to me.
