The bible, especially the old testament, is not a thing you want you're kid reading if you wan to keep them "pure." There's castration, burning alive, torture, crucifixion, circumcision, you get the idea.

Simple: people shouldn't read the Bible, since they wouldn't know WTF it's about.
That's what priests are for. They read it and explain it to the masses. At a measly few verses per Sunday ;P...
Also - the Old Testament IS pretty fucked up, but that's OK, since it's obsolete because of the New one. The New Testament is pretty much "Religion 2.0", since the Old Testament is for Jews anyway ;].

In theory ? Yeah, sure. In practice ? Well - have you heard any sane Christian referring to the Old Testament ? Or heard it on a Sunday mass ?
Christians treat is like Microsoft does Windows XP. Yeah - it's still supported. It's not patched though. They'd love to "phase it out" ;P.

Come on - it's full of twisted stuff. It might be addressed in some useful cases, but Christianity, as I've noticed, is a lot more about Jesus (nomen omen) than about the Father (it's all good, though, since it's the same God, amirite ;P ?). Consider the Christian philosophy - God is usually SO transcendent, you can't even SAY anything about him. Jesus is somewhat more tangible and a LOT more politically correct ;P.
Still - I major in Philosophy, not Religious Studies, so don't take my word for any of the above...

But seriously - I already said it's not 100% obsolete. I'm not naive - far from it.
I merely remark that MOST of it is AVOIDED. See how much of a reasonable claim that is, compared to "ALL of it is IGNORED" ?
Go ahead - if you wish to prove me wrong, you have to prove that more than 50% of the Old Testament is referred to quite often.

Yeah, plenty of times. Oh, sane... wait, no. You're right. :P
But nonetheless, the New Testament is equally invalidated by their desire to declare the Old Testament invalid. They're inseparable. Not only did Jesus' own sentiments on the matter confirm this, but his sacrifice to forgive our 'original sin'.
Without Adam and Eve it's all bullshit. With Adam and Eve it's all bullshit.
Some religions never know when to die.
Oh and as for Jesus being politically correct, I don't know how politically correct his condoning of keeping slaves is. Or his condoning of killing them slowly. Or his desire to see disobedient children stoned to death... but yeah. Still, more so than his heavenly father at least.

There actually was a game developed by the Jihad called "Night of Bush Capturing"... it was banned in every country :P
