Ignore the others, you really should play first broken sword.
And I haven't even tried myst. Should I change that some day?

Edit: and yes had to add.. Gabriel Knight 1 equals awesomeness.

Broken Sword Director's Cut is a good choice if you don't have much experience with the genre. It has been updated from the original game with an in-game hint system and deaths have been removed.

...of course for these reasons (and many others) it is also worse than the original version for those who have played it before, but it's still good enough anyway to be recommended.

As far as MAC goes, I think some Telltale games are natively for MAC, so no need for emulators or virtual machines, of course most of their games are more or less sequels of older games, so it would make more sense to play original ones first.
I'm in a similar situation to the OP, I played TLJ on my last PC, (currently on Win 7, which makes it look ugly), recently I tried Lost Horizon (highly recommend it!), which made me get Secret Files 1 and 2, again good games as well.

What I am looking for is someone to recommend more recently released games that are more Win 7 friendly.

I've played the GK 3 BS games and Grey Matter game as well btw. So I'm kinda looking for less well known titles.

I like scary and lost civilization types of adventure games, not Layton type games, if that makes sense, Aztec, Templar, Shamballa etc. But recent and Win 7 friendly are what I would like recommended please :)

Sorry for hijacking the thread Trevorish (OP), but it doesnt make sense to spam the board with a similar thread as we are looking for similar things :)

Okay so I think I'm down to Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight or Tex Murphy: UAKM. Which would be best for a adventure game novice? I'd prefer to avoid something without too many insane puzzles, pixel hunting and dead ends. I'd just get all three but I have neither the time or the money at this point.

No problem! That's what threads are for :)

I've played all three.
GK is definitely the most 'hardcore'.
UaKM if you like FMV and a great narrative, but as you know I'm already going to tell you that PD is better.
Broken Sword is an incredible game. For an adventure game novice, I'd actually recommend that you start off with this one. The sequel is a bit of a letdown in comparison though.

I agree with Frater and a couple of others above, Broken Sword is definitely the one one you need to get. It's newbie friendly (especially the DC version, showing the clickable hotspots), and it's also pretty much universally considered to be one of the best adventure games ever made.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with Broken Sword and we'll see where I go from there. Thanks for all your recommendations!
