First woman in space! Oh noes!

First woman in space or first shit in space is nothing different. Conquering the moon was the first progress in space programme.

You also forgot to mention that "first dog in space" for example, never returned back on earth ;D

If anybody thinks USSR was superior to US, please go migrate to North Korea immediately.
OMG they are doing it for the common good. This will fail for sure. This always ends in dictatorship.

Apart from that it's just good old socialism again. Free health care, free housing, universal basic income, less working hours without reducing income, ... just quoting from the article.

Welcome to paradise. Only nobody is working there and therefore everybody earns the same, exactly zero. The proposed economic system hasn't worked in the past and won't work in the future.

Some other ideas are nice like saving the environment or more democracy although not really new but the whole package smells badly. They aren't doing good for the Occupy movement. More realistic goals would be better. They are just isolating themselves.

The funniest part is when they tell companeis should be ruled by democracy.

So I should start a company, invest my whole live savings in it, and then loose control over it, because my employees will have more votes than I have.

Brilliant! When and where can I start such business?! It sounds terrific!!!

I seriously don't know how anybody could defend that stupid manifesto.

Democratic international commerce, another "great" idea.

I only brought it up beacuse the moon landing was used as an example of USA's superiority over the USSr, when in fact they where lagging behind. USSR did have a superior space programme until the mid 70's.

If you want to bring in the animals, USA actually beat USSR by having a Rhesus Monkey in a V2 rocket reaching somewhere about 50-60 km altitude in 1949 (which can kind of technically be considered in space...). The monkey died off course. They also technically got a mouse in space in 1950, which also burned up on return. However USSR sent two dogs (Tsygan and Dezik) into space in 1951 (but not in orbit) and both dogs survived the trip.

The dog you are tinking of (Laika) was the first animal in orbit (1954)], and died because of a malfunction with the rocket causing it not separating correctly.

edit: so technically the first dogs in space did survive the trips. Laika (the famous one) was dog number 5 or 6, I think.

USSR was never superior in technology. They were first in some things during space programme, but what was the cost?

People starving, because they needed to send animal into space.

I am not talking about the political system as such, in this case it can be argued that we should not waste resources on space programme at all. What I wanted to say that it was different kind of technology. The political system in the USSR would make people starve whether they did or did not have a space programme at all, it is really not a factor. However they did give it higher priority and did have more breakthroughs the the USA.

USSR made robust and clunky things that could run on a shoe string, the USA made fine tuned precision machinery which required a team of technicians and specialist instruments.

I remember reading somewhere a fighter pilot (American) talking it was a shame they never got to a shooting war with the USSR, as he was not sure what the outcome would be. On one hand they had a backbone of F16's (I think they are called...) which had superior speed, technology and armaments, but they broke down if you looked hard at them and could not land at anything except paved runways with specialised technician team for maintenance and restocking. The USSR had a backbone of MIG's, which had inferior speed and armaments, but they could soak up damage, land and take of in a grain field, run on car petrol and be fixed by the village car mechanic.

Some of the same philosophy applied to the space programme, different paradigms - they both had advantages and disadvantages. However, the USA was lagging behind the USSR space programme until the 70's. It was not given the same priority until JFK made a point of having the first man on the moon.
Even Poland could go to space if we spend our entire economy income ;P

but yeah, mostly, what you said :P

You can do that now. Get your business going and then help the employees unionize. Voila - you will have successfully created a company run by democracy. Just look at the rosy example of the UAW and the US auto industry over the last 40 years, to see how wonderful it can be! ; )
I love you, backwards American Republican. So does Milton Friedman.
The principles of this global manifesto are noble, however they are not what will fix the cruxes of modern society. In fact they will do more to create a failed welfare state.

To uplift the common man, we as a species or race (being only one race, the human race) need too find an equitable way to ensure a high standard of free education delivered to the masses with the parallel removal of the religious power bloc. Particularly of the Abrahamic faiths.

In short, better education and less religious dogma. And in less than a century most conflict will be removed from humanity's ills.

Try looking for the finest vodka. THAT should REALLY be explosive enough

Edit: Of course that's not all Poland has got. But it IS known for strong alcoholic beverages too.

No fuel required. Just take the balloon and fill it with the hot air from this Occupy Manifesto.
