We're really not slacking off today as it's the third news item today! And what's even better, this one announces a start of an early weekend promo [url=http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/would_you_like_to_see_the_weekend_promos_of_gog_on_thursday/post1](*wink *wink lackoo1111 ;)). So how about a 50% discount on all games from 1C Publishing, including King's Bounty: The Legend, UFO series, Star Wolves and more. During the promo you get 50% off on all games no matter how many of them you buy. But don't you wait until Monday, April 11 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, to take advantage of the offer as you can miss it!
I really appreciate the fact that the 50% discount applies to single games as well.
Thank you, just bought SR2.
I've wanted SR2 for a long time, but avoided it because of the DRM. Thanks to GOG it is now in my collection!

deonast: I give up, I guess I'll buy UFO: Aftermath next time it is on special. I can't seem to process any transactions from my bank account with gog, either through paypal or direct by credit card. My bank must have changed something in weekend upgrades. My credit card with another bank would take a few days to get funds into.

kalirion: If you have a pop-up blocker on the NoScript extension enabled, you could try disabling it. With some credit cards (my Capital One MC for instance) a pop-up appears for extra security verification.
Thanks for the suggestion, I do have no script as a pop up blocker, disabled it and tried again. From the message GOGs checkout system it does sound like my bank is knocking me back, and also knocking back through paypal. Looks like my bank is screwing with me :)
right so you would be quite hapy to fork out on a game that you dont know anything about - you made of money or what

hooston: so what is the point in the promo when nobody really wants the game that you are promoting

Zabinatrix: The point is what I just wrote? Some games are great, but go under the radar for most people. There are a few hundred games here and even though I've been a gamer for 20+ years now I'm not intimately familiar with them all.

For instance, I just bought Space Rangers. I've heard about it before, but wasn't familiar enough with it to go and seek it out. The promotion brought my attention to the game, prompting me to visit the store page and read about the game - it seemed like a nice game, and with the promotion it was cheap enough for me to take a chance on it.

See how that works? It's good for GOG - they get a sale they would probably not have gotten otherwise, and it's good for me because it gives me a game at a low price and I get to try something new. What would GOG gain by only having sales on the games that are already favorites? And what would I gain in the long run?

Have you been listening to what I've actually been saying?

The promotions call my attention to games that haven't grabbed my attention otherwise. Like in the case that I mentioned with Space Rangers - I knew about it, but not enough to seek it out before the promo called my attention to it.

So then I read about it and realized that it was a game I wanted. And yes, I was prepared to "fork out" a few dollars. I'm definitely not a rich guy, but I can afford a few dollars for a game.

If you truly can't afford that I sympathize with you - not having any money is really hard and I've experienced it in the past. But it doesn't address the point you raised about what games to promote. The already well-known ones simply don't need that publicity; they'll sell anyway. GOG is a wonderful place and they do a lot for us, but they need to be a successful business to survive - how would that be helped by just promoting the games people are buying anyway?
That is EXACTLY the point of a promo.

If you can get somebody to buy something they may not have bought you're on to a winner!

Zabinatrix: Yeah, and they have promos here every week. It's not like they could have a promo of the same ten topselling games every week... That would be kind of silly.

I don't think I'd like that kind of sale better anyway. The bestsellers, the most famous and arguably best games here, are the ones I have bought or am going to buy anyway. Six or ten dollars really isn't much for a great game, so I'll pay that for them if I'm interested.

These promos where games suddenly cost half of that (or sometimes even less) are great for introducing me to new games, those that I didn't know that I wanted. I've bought several games that I hadn't even heard of or really looked at before at the promos here, and often enough it's turned out that I love them.

And besides, every once in a while (and at special times, like the Christmas promos) there tends to actually be a sale even on those top sellers. So if six or ten dollars really is too much for you to pay for the best games, then you just have to be patient and wait for it.

Damn found out today why I couldn't by from GOG over the weekend my bank found a transaction they didn't trust and put a hold on my account. Would you believe a $0.96 OK Go music single download was to blame.
