Hopefully that's correct.

Yes, my understanding (from comments made on the ZP Discord) is that they are talking to Red Candle, but it's taking a while to sort out terms, etc. They seem to be willing to host it and hopefully we will see Devotion on Zoom Platform soon!

I agree with your other post as well, that focusing on getting DRM-free games that are not on GOG is a great way for ZP to boost their profile and win over users. I have suggested to them some games such as RHEM and Axiom Verge, which would fit that category. 7.62 High Calibre has been available there for some time, btw.

This is correct, there was no puss involved

Well, that's no fun. I went out and got all the toy's we'd need: The big long sticks with the fuzzy balls on the end, the ones that you turn on and they buzz across the floor, the drugs, and of course the fancy little flashlights. I was all purrpaired! I thought i was going to get to see the zoomies! I even built a cat house!

Sorry boss, the only thing to be angry about is Zoom's awful twitter videos ;)
Never count your chickens until they've hatched.

It seems to me, that the ZOOM Platform grabbed a great promotional moment, and going by the interest in this thread and resulting new customers, I am sure it paid off.

Whether they come to the party and actually eventually release Devotion is anyone's guess.

One would have thought the window to capitalize on its release has now mainly passed ... unless they are trying to avoid China's attention.

Trying to iron out a deal seems ominous to me, after all this time.

Still you never know ... Life is stranger than fiction ... so they say.

Could you quote what they said to give you the idea they jumped on it?

Far as I know, the conversation was basically "if Red Candle want it on ZOOM, we would be willing to host it" and thats about it. Hardly trying to make a big deal about it for promotional/new customers means.

I'm a little confused. First, you say it was a grab to get users, then say they might to be staying undercover from china?

:P

Companies talk all the time about deals, doesn't matter if it's video games or Big Papa Pete's House of Ice Creams, talks do not equal deals. This is why biz dev exists, agents exist etc

I know theories are a fun thing to be engaged with but sometimes it's as simple as 'we asked a question and this was the answer'

I never said jumped on it for starters ... or that it was even in haste which 'jumped' implies.

It may have been subtle, which could well have been deliberate, because we all know, including them, how easy things spread ... especially in that circumstance. Emotions were running high in some quarters, and look at the love shown for the ZOOM Platform in just this thread.

Many many reported on it here, and I don't doubt many many other places ... Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc.

They of course, wouldn't want to make it obvious they were taking advantage ... and I am not saying they did, but actions or lack of them, start speaking for themselves.

It seems odd to me that a developer who would probably do almost anything now to get their game out there, is being stymied by lengthy negotiations ... just saying.

ZOOM Platform are probably calling all the shots, yet they still haven't released it. It's gotta make you suspicious.

Gawd, why would you be confused.

Until action happens, it is just words.

China if they were going to act, would likely only do so if the action occurred. Until then the ZOOM Platform can pretend anything they like, and gain a possible benefit from such words, which they certainly have I reckon.

Wouldn't be surprised if this quietly peters out over behind-the-scenes concerns that carrying Devotion would be the equivalent of painting a big bullseye on the platform.
Which quite easily could be taken down/severely hampered from functioning by, for example continuous DDoS attacks courtesy of legions of loyalist "gamers".

You should be hopeful about Detention getting releases on more platforms. Devotion isn't terrible or anything, but it doesn't live up to the hype it generated from all the controversy, whereas Detention is legitimately great. Gog messing up screwed us out of both games and like I said elsewhere: Devotion not being here is bad enough, Detention not being here is criminal.

In true gogian fashion, they grabbed a great promotional moment and then tossed it right overboard. At least gog gets the odd scraps from a major publisher every other month.

The screenshot shows exactly what was said... There's no conspiracy.

Theres big complaints about wanting GOG and other companies to be more transparent. When one comes along, you then seem to want to use it against them (or what other people have twisted their words into).

Make up your minds.

Mainly due to your comments making no sense and contradicting each other. No one is pretending anything, you're literally pulling stuff out of the air then trying to act like a smart arse when asked about your claims mate :)

Thank you for sharing. Will be interesting to see what could've happened with GOG and if the business risk was worth alienating a good portion of > 325 million Chinese PC gamers (and growing).

I'd say the quality of the game is somewhat besides the point, tbh.

I agree absolutely. It seems in this case Zoom Platform are damned if they do and damned if they don't. They try to be open and honest and they get accused of trying to take advantage of a PR situation; however, if they said nothing (as GOG so often does), they would be accused of not communicating. How do they 'win'? What should they do?

Also, people need to bear in mind there are two parties to this - it also depends on Red Candle. ZP obviously can't unilaterally release the game and a third party store release might not be a high priority for Red Candle right now, given they have already made the game available for sale on their own site.

If those Chinese gamers will feel alienated by a video game being released in other counties, then imo they absolutely deserve to be alienated (regardless of how many of them there might be).

(besides the fact we know this isn't about 'gamers')
