clarry: My progress in video games

Hello,

No progress.
I started spending more and more time with this girl I... kinda befriended last year. Now I barely remember that I own games.

That said, I am in the last stretch in Broken Age. I probably just managed to get there because I ended up using the time I should be studying.

That sounds like a happy thing. I wish it were so in my case.

I just don't seem to have energy for games and most of them are quite dull anyway.

Indeed it is.

Wish I could say I have no idea what you're talking about, but truth is I was in this sort of rough patch two years ago. Every game I started felt boring.
What got me to like them again was trying several genres almost at the same time, jumping from one to the next at a whim. A couple games eventually felt more enjoyable than the rest so I kept going back to them over and over.
In my case they were a point and click adventure I can't remember and Psychonauts, neither of which I had played at the time. I will eventually go back to each of those games I abandoned, but now prepared for a proper playthrough.

Back on topic: I just remembered I am on an early run of Warcraft 2 Beyond the Dark Portal, human campaign, around the 3rd level. Orcs yet to be played. ( I completed both original campaigns these past few months)

kharille: Had to try the restoration potion glitch but that turned me off the game for a while.
avatar
dtgreene: Suggestion: When playing around with this sort of glitch, use a separate file rather than saving over your main.

Also, from my understanding, this is not really a glitch; everything is working as expected, at least until integer overflow occurs. Granted, this does appear to be an oversight (maybe Fortify Restoration shouldn't affect the power of Fortify Restoration effects, even though they would be classified as Restoration), but it's not a programming mistake.

Morrowind's super potion exploit is a similar case (though I don't like Oblivion's fix for it; I would have taken a different approach).
My poor use of words. I thought it was legal so I did it. Had to mess around since I have a health ring that gave me 20,000,000 health but I managed to over come that and remove the cursed ring.

Think I'll finish fallout 4 before I get back to Skyrim.

Still got BG installed but it doesn't look like I'll revisit it any time soon.

With Bethesda games, it is not safe to trust the game to be balanced (or bug free, for that matter); as a result, the optimal strategy might not be fun in the long term. (These setups can be fun to play around with, however.) Yes, this unfortunately means you may have to hold back.

I did not find what I played of Baldur's Gate 1 to be fun. In particular, some of the issues I had were:
* The real-time with pause battle systems combines the worst of turn-based and full real-time, while lacking both the rhythm of turn-based and the fluidity of real-time.
* At level 1, attacks (on both sides, if fighting level appropriate enemies) miss *way* too often, and are too deadly when they hit, leading to fights where nothing happens for a whie, and then an enemy gets a lucky hit and kills you outright.
* You are level 1 for too long; I am not sure if I even made it to level 2.
* An early sidequest, one that seemed to be a simple minor task (as would be suitable for level 1 characters), ended up with me fighting an enemy that used Improved Invisibility, a spell that a level 1 party has no counters for, and which is pretty much unfair game design.

Baldur's Gate 2 doesn't have those issues (except the first one), but has some of its own; the biggest one I had is the game forcing (often timed) quests on you (rather than quests starting via player interaction), sometimes interrupting me when I'm trying to do things like manage my inventory and memorized spells. Also, there was still one quest I encountered that resulted in a fight with an enemy that was almost impossible to hit and was outright immune to spells below 7th level.
* Install The Witcher*

Played the intro, liked it.

*Install The Witcher 2*
Played the intro, died in the arena, *hated it*.

Now replaying many other RPGs (including the first one).
I just finished the second and three episodes of Secret Agent : "Kill Again Island" and Dr No. Body.

Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Editon

After finishing that cult fps in "Piece of Cake" (hey yes, a few months ago I considered myself a novice) I now try to finish all episodes in "Come Get Some".

I discovered an excellent source-port: Raze (kind of an improved version of Eduke 32) that makes Duke 3D and Shadow Warrior finally fluid with the mouse and the game speed (200 fps option!), in short the pleasure of the game is there and I'm having a blast.

This is my progression in the game:

Episode 1: Map 4, Toxic Dump
Episode 2: (I haven't started this episode yet.)
Episode 3: Map 2, Bank Roll
Episode 4: Map 2, Duke-Burger

For episode 4 I must admit that he's quite tense to finish. :/

Shadow Warrior (1997, Base game)

So I beat the first boss and finished the shareware episode, I'll happily tackle the next one, thanks Raze! :D

Redneck Rampage

I arrived at the third level "The Junkyard", only one painful thing: the side looking for keys that are well hidden and the rather soft and painful fights does not help too much to a fast progression, so my pleasure of game takes a blow.

The Ultimate Doom

In Sigil, I'm at the level : E5M6: Unspeakable Persecution.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2

I started the "Good" campaign and I'm on mission 2, so far it's okay, the game is not too hard and I can handle the enemy heroes.

Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games

With a team consisting of five Mike's and Magic, Scully, and Spike, I'm on Mission 18: "Attempt to confirm the existence of a high-tech jamming device."

*Yes it is possible to 'clone' the mercenaries, I've actually long since given up on finishing the main Sirtech campaign in the normal way, I find the difficulty completely abused, so at least this way I enjoy playing it.

Tangledeep

With my Paladin class character I beat the first boss, a bird man after raging at least three times on him, I'm now visiting caves.

Quake I
(the base game, not the addons.)

Episode 3 has been completely cleaned up, I'm on the last mission of episode 2 named "The Wizard's Manse".

The Quest: Have a character who is actually ready for the endgame. (Level 14 with access to the final island, some decent equipment, and plenty of wands.)

OpenMW: Got this Morrowind engine re-implementation running via schroot, now I just need to make a few tweaks to the source code (change the way leveling works, make the effect of Endurance on Health retroactive, and cap the effects of Alchemy to something reasonable).
Vampire: The Masquerade
I'm currently doing quests in Hollywood, Helping Velvet to find out who is behind the mysterious snuff tape. Lots of fun!

Divine Divinity
I was having a GREAT time (50+ hours) but a game-breaking glitch ruined my save. DAMN! :(

I guess I'm somewhere at the beta stage. I think the gameplay works—at least I think its fun. I have six playable levels so far, but need one or two more. Lots of graphical finetuning and various smaller features missing. I have the basic structure for level unlocks in place, but need to enable and finetune it.
Oh man, I'm slow to update even my Games Finished post. If I was to post where I am in all the games I play for a while, even without going into the hundreds I have "on hold" in one place or another, that would be waaay too much work for me :)
Chasm The Rift

After a lot of hard work, I'm now on level 4 "Underground Base" and I'm stuck because all the doors are closed (another stupid puzzle I bet...). In short, in my opinion, this is one of the hardest fps.

Half Life 1

[Chapter 6: Blast Pit]

I finally got that bloody alien plant, seriously on this game you really have to have nerves of steel... between the jumps that are messed up and tend to slide, and putting an enemy on you that shoots you, I imagine my neighbours must have "appreciated" my (many) grumbles/yells of pure rage.

Heroes of Migth and Magic 1

I managed to reach the last level in the campaign with the Warlcok but alas, even after 20 attempts and trying various strategies, I couldn't make any progress in this bloody mission!

Maybe if I tried the same mission but played Lord Ironfist's campaign it would be "easier" but I doubt it.

Powerslave (Ms-Dos , Build Engine)

I'm progressing slowly but surely. I'm at level 4: El Subua

Jagged Alliance Deadly Games

It's been a while since I gave up on finishing the game's main campaign (the Sirtech Campaign), so I've been on a quest to find a personalised campaign that would be easy to complete.

In the description of this one "use only wimpy mercs", I don't think it's a note of humour from the author, but in this campaign the difficulty is totally abused.

There are 11 missions out of a total of 35, but the problem is that with the meagre amount of money we're given at the start, we've got mercs who can't shoot enemies, dubious starting equipment (lousy pistols! at least give us a good old shotgun!) and it's not with the weapons we find in the levels that I've managed to enjoy playing them.

In other words, it's the kind of campaign where if you're not doing Save Scumming over and over again, you're spending more time screaming and stressing than anything else.
Phantasie 1 (Apple 2 version): On the overworld, with a solo wizard who's currently dead.

(In all seriousness, I got this to happen by having the character drown. Furthermore, I was able to explore part of a dungeon before the game threw an encounter at me and then decided that my party had been defeated; I didn't even get to see what the enemies were.)

Also:
Plague Tree: Reached the first Fatality, then quit. (Note that this game, from what I understand, is quite long, and the numbers get really big; consider that the current endgame score has an F in it (meaning that many e's), and before the first fatality, you end up with over ee12 (that's a 1 followed by a trillion zeros, or 10^10^12) cases.
Dark Souls 2:
Currently at the Earthen Peak.

Blood West:
Collected all the cursed items in Chapter 1 and now going to fight the boss, Mother Of The Roots.
