I was really looking forward to try this on GOG - but of course it can be meh for lots of other people.

That's why we need more releases and/or "at your own risk" release type from GOG, where people can buy what they really like, even if people at GOG don't like those specific games as much.
Maybe a greenlight process where people could vote by pre-ordering (greenbuy?) - so cheating the system would be too expensive.
