I'm quite wondering, what was wrong with those first pirated versions, that piracy increased after GOG release, which was quite a long time after Steam...
Just a theory... GOG gave it more exposure on top of Steam exposure, so there were naturally more people that knew they could pirate it. The question is if piracy increased proportionally to sales.

Or the devs just wanted an excuse and made up some numbers.

Every time there's a delay in the announcement (real OR perceived), I always cross my fingers and hope it's the pending announcement of the Mechwarrior series...even though I realize that day may never come.

I'd take that. But I meant any of the old Battletech games, or 90s Mechwarrior games (Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, Mechwarrior 3 etc).
