P1na: Why is that, when I'm this close to GOG headquarters, it takes this long for the release to arrive?
That's pretty funny. :)

I keep looking at the front page and waiting for a LA game. I'm starting to realize that I'm wasting my time.
I pray to thee, Judas for an answer to this thread.

Niggles: i really dont understand :
Whats the big deal about Valkyria Chronicles ? (wasnt this a psp game?....pc version seems to be a turn based one with dodgy looking anime inspired artwork?)
I don't think it's only about the game itself. There is a debut trend since few years of J-RPGs PC ports.
And Valkyria Chronicles has been a "big" announcement (even though it wasn't as one) especially after FF XIII.
And Valkyria Chronicles on PC means Sega could port other of their games and franchises, especially after Sega acquiered Atlus, another liked publisher, so why not thinking about Atlus PC ports, or even Atlus making the long waited sequels of Sega franchises on PC...

The other side of the problem is the hopes we had when Trails in the Sky was released on gog, especially when a tweet said that "it will a great time for J-RPGs fans". But after TitS released late July, we only had Pier Solar.
I can understand people wanting Lucas Arts games, but we already have 6 games for 2 weeks, when we had only 2 J-RPGs for 3 months...

I have a few J-RPGs fans friends and I hoped to advice them to buy DRM-free games, but I just can't anymore, there are too many on Steam. And now I am pretty sure that most of J-RPGs fans who are newcomers on PC don't even look at stores other than Steam.

In the end, it's a bit disappointing. And every post on Lucas Arts to be a priority made the wait more painful.

Releases were faster when I was in Japan, I swear. I blame the Polish postal service.

IAmSinistar: As a Pre Order bonus you will receive two in-game items.

Et tu, GOG?
avatar
tfishell: I'm not getting the "betrayal" here. It's not GOG's decision to have the two in-game items, they're just letting people decide if they want them or not.
More accurately, they are requiring folks to determine if they want the content before the game is even out. Once it's out, it's too late to decide you want the content, because it's no longer available. I am not now and never will be a fan of schemes where parts of a game are only available under certain circumstances. Artificial scarcity is bad enough, but arbitrary unavailability is even worse. It's a naked attempt to drive sales at the cost of customer satisfaction. Any company that does that is not worthy of my patronage.
I guess I should quit checking GOG for a new release today.

Hear hear!

I especially hate when you get something nice and big and fat and wonderful (like 2 bonus items) and then those items ruin the game (like give an unfair advantage that ruins the difficulty or, even worse, become almost necessary to play them game).

You want a pre-order bonus? How about your pick of free DLC. Or a $5 off voucher for the next pre-order. Or a mini-game to play while you wait for the release. Or an early soundtrack to get you hyped up. Or a comic to get you into the world.

But giving in-game content is, IMHO, a big no-no. And I do not play with those types of shenanigans anymore.

Wait, did you see that? Turns out that the acronym for 'Trails in the Sky' is 'TitS' OK fellow people who never noticed that before, lets take a moment to let that sink in and then giggle like adolescent schoolboys!

Huh. Never heard of that acquisition before, and that was over a year ago now.
Atlus actually started publishing here earlier in the year with Tesla Effect. There should be another release from them sometime this month as well. If that opens a door with Sega is anyone's guess, but it might be a possibility.

There was an article on Gamasutra about that, and it was a bit over a year ago.

cw8: The hell? No new game?
+1 for quoting an obscure Hong Kong movie to express your outrage.

Here, let me try...

So no game release today?

Excellent suggestions! I could get behind that kind of pre-order stuff. But the kinds of exclusives we have been seeing play strictly into that competitive gamer mentality of "ha ha, I got something you don't got!". Frankly I don't care to be treated as though I'm an emotionally-challenged pubescent, and don't buy from publishers who consider such to be their prime demographic.

Well said! Thanks for expressing my thoughts so eloquently..
