Technically, shouldn't it be "Where the hell is Thursday's old game?!?!?!?"

(Sorry if this is a repeat, haven't read all the old pages in this thread.)

Back in my day, GOG only had one new addition a week and we were all satisfied. We didn't have weekend promos either. Hell, there was a time when gem promos weren't twice a week, but twice a month, and in my day they didn't even exist. And GOG's first holiday sale? No discounts. It was practically, "tired of buying games for yourself? Buy some for your friends, too!"

You kids today are spoiled, I tell you.

Hah! If I were not very lazy and did not think it was pointless, I'd dig up threads of those days when we were clamoring for more releases.

Seriously, I'd rather have continuous content I don't care much about with the random gem here and there than waiting through a whole week of nothing for a new release.

You don't know what you are talking about, you're the spoiled one!

When I was a kid and I wanted to play Tetris I had to carve a bunch of blocks out of stone and then have a friend drop them off a cliff while I tried to catch them and put them in the right place!

People walk by and see some poor kid squashed under a huge stone and say, "Oh my god what happened?" and I'd tell them, "What are you stupid!? Can't you see he's playing Tetris!"
What's the latest time of day a game's been released on GOG?

I'd guess there's been more than a few that have appeared in the wee or mid evening hours, but I haven't noticed any personally while I've been a member (personally)

xxxIndyxxx: Yes I agree, but I don't think they intended to make a doom clone. It's the media who labeled it an oldschool shooter.
The GoG version of Painkiller (Black Edition?) has an some extra videos, one o them is a making of where one f the devs says they made Painkiller like an old-school shooter, so it's not just the media. The problem with painkiller is that they looked at games like Doom or Duke Nukem 3D and only saw killing enemies. So they made a game where you kill enemies. However, those games were not just shooting galleries, they were adventures and survival games as well.

See, in a Doom-school shooter the levels are like mazes, like a real place you might go to. There are shortcuts and secret areas with hidden power ups. Often times the resources you find in those levels are very scarce and you will want to find the secets not just for the sake of completition, but because it helps you. You could run into a room guns blazing or you could try and be more sneaky. All this made the game feel very organic, like a place that migh actually exist and a situation you might actually get into.

Painkiller lacks this illusion, it's just killing things. There is nothing wrong with that, but it lacks the immersion and world-building. Levels have little to no connection to each other or grounding in the world, they are just chose because they are cool. Enemies have no interesting placement, they just spawn out of nowhere inside the enemy bubbles. i mean, what are all those monsters doing, are they seriously all sitting in one spot waitign for me come by? In Doom monsteres were all over the place, patrolling, holding positions, or scouting.
It would appear Friday is the new Thursday. ;)

I'd rather not. For me, the main draw of GOG is that I can buy a game in the absence of any reliable information (contemporary reviews don't reflect the standards of today, and newly published [user] reviews tend to be full of sh-- er, nostalgia) and still be guaranteed to have some fun as long as I don't accidentally run something that's been onestarred to oblivion. Getting just about any mediocrity on the service (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, YES, YOU... NO, THAT GUY OVER THERE) will turn GOG into yet another GamersGate, and we already have a GamersGate.
The Sims is now 14 years old.

Anyone else like to see The Sims Complete Collection on GOG ?
