skeletonbow: I was kind of thinking of something bigger than that along the lines of "holy shit, we have Disney/LucasArts now!" level of awesome. :)
I'd say Stardock's arrival was a pretty big anouncement, they have some true classics in their roster. Not Lucasarts-big, of course, but I don't think any publisher still not on board has that "holy grail" aura, not even Take2. Maybe Microsoft, but that's it.

My last 'Holy shit!' moment was Paradox, I think it was a huge thing

RottenRotz: I wonder what is the ratio between GOOD old games and indie games released on gog in lets say past 6 months?
avatar
Niggles: You would need to ask JMich. He usually keeps track of these things :)
I already got that info, but thanks!
avatar
MaceyNeil: Your missing the point we already get pre-releases.
My suspense has worn off. Especially after that last debacle with the rolling till they sell out sales (you know the one where everyone was putting in false positive reviews for Jack Keane).
avatar
skeletonbow: Holy that was like 2+ years ago... "Let it Go(TM)" :) I'm not a big fan of the Insomnia sales either personally but they're never going to please 100% of everyone with every single thing they do and people need to stop expecting them to IMHO as it's unrealistic. :)

avatar
anothername: To be honest; I had that moment when Stardock out of the blue decided to release their Steam onlys here about 2 months ago, while just a short time before the SD boss said no to everything but Steam; so its not like it was ages when we got something completely unexpected. Similar also with the X series; did not really expected them showing up here.
avatar
skeletonbow: Hmm, I don't even know what Stardock is... googling...

... ah, ok I'm familiar with the names of the games but never really registered the company name in my head.

I was kind of thinking of something bigger than that along the lines of "holy shit, we have Disney/LucasArts now!" level of awesome. :)
For 4x fans it was a really big deal ;)

A release on the "holyfuck" magnitude of Disney/Lucas. Don't know... MS; Valve; Blizzard? Oh, and Rockstar. Its a very short list of impossibles unless something in their respective management changes.

Yeah, the only bigger thing would be 2K coming here and releasing all the CIV games.

We really need the Microsoft games! Age of Empires, Freelancer, Midtown Madness, Outwars, Urban Assault... so many great games!

Yeah, that would be cool too. What I forgot to add; its not just the listing and release of a game of those. I doubt anybody would wet their pants if GTA1 gets released here; and about Civ; all but 5 do not require online DRM. I mean I can play Civ 4 just fine; the last official patch even removed the disk drm.

I do might get it on a gog sale for really, really cheap just like I would Oblivion / FO3 should they come here for convenience. But to blow my mind and make me empty me wallet on the counter they need to get their act together, stop behaving like a Valve subsidiary and release their current Steam exclusive titles here.

I Would! And then i would change 3 more pants too, cause i'd had wet them for the releases of GTA London 1961 , GTA 2 and GTA London 1969!

At that point I'd suggest to visit a doctor :P

Silliness aside; I do assume the point I made is understood. Besides personal preference I guess you do see a difference in a GTA1 on gog release announcement and a GTA6 (or 7? I don't follow them) on gog release announcement.

Oh, yes GTA1 + 2 are the ones I'm waiting for. Never could get in to any of those 3d ones. They just aren't the same gameplay style anymore.

Same here. But the chances for the London one is pretty bad. Rockstar doesn't sell it anymore and wants GTA to be only a US thing.

Well yes... I understand that there are many people that would love to have a GTA VI here.

And it would mean a lot too (ideology-wise) cause Rockstar would never do such a thing (i think i remember them say that they don't do PC releases cause we are pirates -.-).
So yeah, a change in their direction would mean a lot for GOG and the DRM-FREE community.

But still i would not care for a GTA VI. Not a day1 purchase for me for sure.
I'd rather have the first 2 GTAs with achievments. Would be very interesting to see what they'd come up with! :D

I doubt that London's chances are any worse than the other 2D GTA games. You see, there is currently no legal way to get digital copies of any of the 2D GTA games. Rockstar used to offer the first two GTA games for free on their site and they also used to be part of the GTA Collection on Steam, but they were taken down for undisclosed reasons (probably because they were buggy and Rockstar got a lot of support tickets complaining that the games weren't working). If GOG could get them working, they would presumably also include the two London expansions.

"If" gog could get them working? :P

I'm pretty sure in some high security vault deep underneath the gog headquarters; in spitting range to the earth core sits an several terrabyte big archive full of high profile games drm free, full working & ready to be released as soon as the lawyers hit the "green light" button. :D

The opposite has been true, though. Like, say, Act of War, Gex, Hogs of War and Revenant, where GOG did have the legal greenlight, but had them delayed due to technical issues.
For what it's worth, I got GTA 1 running 1 (on WIndows 8.1). If I remember correct, it depended how you launched the game (sidebar or file manager), nothing a simple installer change can't fix.
By the way, Gamersgate still claims to sell 1 & 2.
