chevkoch: That sounds like it might provide a kind of jolt I'd enjoy. Could you please share how you're preparing this?
Absolutely! :) Very simple... It's a recipe given to me by a friend, but I tend to stray and improvise with recipes. ;) I'll post the recipe he provided me and I'll also post my adjustments... The recipe:
- 100 grams ginger root
- 100 ml juice from squeezed lemons
- 50 grams or less suger
- 2 cups water
Remove the skin from the ginger roots using a teaspoon. Chop the ginger coarsely into bite-sized pieces and then place the chopped ginger into a food processor to mince it into a pulpy mush. Transfer this mixture into a heat-resistant glass jar and pour 2 cups of boiled water into the mixture. Let the glass jar sit on the counter, uncovered, until it reaches room temperature and then filter the liquid using a strainer, pouring that juice into another glass jar. Add the lemon juice and sugar. Stir, add lid to jar, put in the fridge and drink it when chilled!
My adjustments:
I do not add any sugar and can handle the juice as is. I have tested with a touch of honey a couple of times. I don't own a scale, so I tend to chop a generous cup of ginger root, by eye. Sometimes, I omit the lemon juice completely. After I let the jar reach room temperature, I do not filter it right away: I place the jar with the minced ginger sediment into the fridge and let it sit for 24 hours to make it as strong as possible because I am kind of hardcore when it comes to ginger. LOL! Only then, do I filter it and sometimes add more than 2 cups water, depending how potent the drink is.
Hope this helps!
I was tempted to message this recipe to you privately (I did not want to derail this topic) but then I thought others might be curious too. ;)
Edit: Needed to specify "uncovered" and "add lid to jar". Also, added links to equipment I used.
