matterbandit: There was something very gratifying about backing up my data to an external drive. :) Managed to free up an unexpected 889 GB on my PC's internal hard disk, which has been precariously edging to the brim for the last two months.
That's a healthy amount of porn.

matterbandit: Been kicking myself for not reading as much as I used to! It's been months!! So, starting today, I promised myself I'd pick a book from my bookshelf backlog and dedicate a minimum of 30 minutes daily to reading. Was happy to reacquaint myself with paper again. ;) Hope I keep this up...
So how is the reading going and what did you decide to read?

Yeah, provide the details, we're going to ask you week by week to make a process of building this habit easier for you ;)

LOL! *blushing* ...Mostly offline backups of my GOG games, lots of old photographs scanned from negatives/slides, smartphone recordings, archived Youtube vids, ripped music from my CD collection and "other" files. :P

Thx for asking! The reading seems to be going well, but I did not read yesterday and haven't read today either, so seeing both your posts right now just gave me a jolt of guilt! Gonna resume reading tomorrow!

As not to discourage myself from adopting this new routine, I opted for a "lighter" first read from my bookshelf backlog: The Shape of Water by Daniel Kraus. Now reading: The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami.

My car is working again, so I can go places if I so choose (modulo the pandemic, of course).

Solid reading list and some good choices of writers that can write but do not become too artsy fartsy either. No need to feel guilty about not reading but do keep in mind that a little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing. It's better to read 4 pages today rather than reading 50 tomorrow since "tomorrow" never seem to arrive.

But again: you're reading for fun - you're not being graded on it and no gold star is awarded either. Take your time, dude and I wish you nothing but the best.

I want to preface this post by saying that I am sticking to the current forum topic, because having read your post did make me happy today. :)

I am lightyears away from being "artsy fartsy". LOL! I buy most books from thrift shops, because they are within my spending budget and I love the touch and smell of hardcover (thrift shops are where hardcover books go to die, at least that's the case where I live). I was drawn to The Shape of Water because I had seen the movie years ago and was curious to read the book. And to be fully honest, when I spotted the gorgeous cover artwork for The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, I decided to grab that book too! :P Calling me "quirky" or "sentimentally silly" would be much more accurate. ;)

That said, I appreciate your comment about remembering to read for fun and that it's best to read 4 pages today than reading 50 tomorrow. I really love that advice and find those words encouraging. So, thank you! :D

My guilt stems from me "having let myself go": I was once a heavy reader, but tough times and damaged self-esteem made me abandon what I used to once love. But now I'm trying to reclaim my life again and want to rekindle my love of reading, among other abandoned passions of mine.

Regularly posting here might paint me as that guy who always seems like he's happy about something every day. But the opposite is true. I post here to challenge myself to see the bright side of my mostly lonely or uneventful days. I challenge myself daily to find something to be grateful for. I tell myself, "Hey, life is not exclusively harsh, because such and such a thing made you happy today." :)

Sorry for the winded comment! Guess your post kick-opened my floodgates! LOL!

My postman went back to work and brought my subscribed magazines.
Stranger of Sword City Revisited coming to GOG.

(Plus that other game, which looks like it's the same type of game, so it should also be good.)
Raspberry Pi 400 with DK keyboard layout arrived in the post today.

So, what are you planning on doing with it? Playing Nox Archaist on it, perhaps?
Finally my PC Engine Mini arrived. :D

Diablo 2 Lod; not only i just discovered Plugy, but now, game is much less hard, with more players joined (from command line)! It was high time to go past level 89 (my highest Bnet character that also died and was hardcore, back in the day) and acquire the true endgame items (runewords, etc), while at it! At single player's leisure, too!
My region is under tighter covid regulations from today for some weeks. I'll feel more lonely but I can still volunteer as a translator for migrants for their hearings if I can join via Zoom or something (I'm waiting for details). I sold a few things and getting a 720p webcam to give some online lesson. My laptop one has been broken for a while.

Nah. If it smells even vaguely like an RPG, chances are it's not my cup of tea. I tried giving Titan Quest a go, as I liked the setting and visuals a lot, but it still didn't really click.

Putting together a retro emulator with a Raspberry Pi is tempting, but I probably wouldn't use the 400 model for that. More likely a traditional, keyboard-less version.

This Pi 400 is going into my workshop as a "PC" for tinkering with small, embedded electronics stuff.
The built-in GPIO and BLE are just what I need.
I'm also hoping it'll work as a real cross-compiling developer machine for writing bare-metal SW for ARM Cortex controllers. With the release of their 2040 chip, I expect this to be officially supported already, even though I haven't actually looked into it.
Edit: Looks like I'm in luck. Segger even support the Pi 4 as a host for JLink, so everything should be good to go.

I'll also use it for video streaming when I'm occasionally out there working on longer projects.
My older Pi 3 was challenged a bit when streaming video while doing other things at the same time. The 400 handles it well.

Basically, it's going to work as a cheap PC, with a small form-factor so it doesn't take up too much space on the workbench, and one that's less susceptible to having issues with a little sawdust or metal filings sucked up by a cooling fan.

So far, it hasn't disappointed. Lovely little box.
