Not sure about the introductory part - it's way more hard core than Dungeons of Dredmor.

DCSS is definitely way harder than Dungeons of Dredmor especially if you pick a crazy race and class combination but I find the overall user experience in the Tiles version a lot more refined and streamlined than other roguelikes.

I played Dungeons of Dredmor via the Really Big Bundle about a month ago and found the user interface slightly more clunky than expected. The skills system in there is awesome though.
