Shadow of Mordor is the perfect remedy to bring me out of the Shadow of Boredor.
I usually only play one game and give it my undivided attention, but I've recently been playing several games, jumping to a second when I got bored of the first one and trying a third when the first two didn't feel like fun anymore. I knew from the start that I wouldn't enjoy them as much as Dishonored, but figured that they still deserved a chance, especially before I spoiled myself with a game on Dishonored-level.
I've done the opposite before, playing some flawed game right after Deus Ex: Human Revolution and damn, did I ever want to go back to DX: HR. I've now given these games a chance and found them unworthy: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Hunted: the Demon's Forge and the rebooted Rise of the Triad. Risen 2 and Saints Row 2 are on the backburner for now, given the benefit of the doubt, since I haven't played them much. Would have played them more if they didn't leave such a not-really-fun first impression.
Shadow of Mordor gives a great first impression, reminds me both of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dishonored. The former, because it "borrows" the melee fighting mechanics from that game and the latter, because it allows me to explore the area by climbing up on stuff and doing stealth kills. There's even a skill for stealth killing from above.
So many fun options, so few not-fun restrictions that were awfully common in the above unworthy games. Finally a game worth my undivided attention.
