Zchinque: I'm currently about two hours in. I'll probably play another hour or two tonight, and then I'll send you a "review" of sorts of however long I've played, so that you still have time to get it in the promo.
tinyE: Thanks. That's way above and beyond the call of duty; I really appreciate it.
So, I just finished my session, beat the game. Total playtime was about three and a half hours, as a rough estimate.
This game, to the degree it can be called a 'game', was clearly made more to be
experienced, rather than
played. It's a purely story driven game, with little in the way of traditional gameplay. There are a couple of puzzles (and the term is used lightly here), but they're all very basic, easy, and simple. There are a couple of places where you have more than one option of how to interact with the environment, which technically could let the story branch out in different paths, but I doubt it. I believe this is very much a linear experience.
The story was intriguing and heartfelt, although I didn't find the tearjerker I've seen it described as. I won't go into further details, so as to avoid spoilers.
The pixel art was gorgeous, and the soundtrack was mostly very fitting, building up under the emotions the game attempted to convey.
While I was lucky enough to get the game for free (again, thanks to IAmSinistar), I believe I would have deemed it four bucks well spent. For a tenner, I might have been a bit more iffy, short length combined with perceived linearity considered.
All in all, I give it my recommendations, but I probably wouldn't consider it an absolute must-play.
Let me know if there's something I should elaborate on.
