Vinry_.: DEFCON

Well, not exactly playing actually, since I spend most of my time setting the AI against one another and just watching them fight. There's just this sense of calmness to it.
Sometimes, it's nice to just set AI against AI and "play" (by which I really mean watch) a 0-player game with only AI players.

I used to do this with Tetris Attack all the time. (Note that Tetris Attack isn't actually Tetris; it just used the name for marketing purposes.)

True, but at the same time, it just feels inherently wrong to find peace in enjoying the AI trying to destroy each others' countries in DEFCON, especially when the game will play the sound of people crying in the background after a nuke strike.

Currently I'm playing The Witcher 3 and Doom, and just reinstalling all the games I had before reset Windows.
Still suffering cause I'm going to lose all my save from Pathfinder Kingmaker, got almost 90 of gameplay and was in the final chapter :'(
But The Witcher 3 is so f*cking awesome, I wish to have more time to play it more!

TonyRadX: Come to think of it, there are two more games I played that take killing "seriously", for lack of a better word. Namely Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution
avatar
Ixamyakxim: The sequel (Mankind Divided?) plays like that too. It's actually a little annoying to me, because the gunplay, mods and lethal options seem EXTREMELY well done... but I can hardly bring myself to use them because the game rewards stealth and non-lethal with more EXP.

It kills me that I'm a sucker for Min/Maxing - when secretly some times I just REALLY want to blast away with my awesome tweaked out assault rifle.
Did you play the second installment, "Invisible War"? I heard it's worst of the series (Well, aside from "The Fall" which is basically a bad mobile port), but as a completionist I'll most likely play through all Deus Exes in my next playthrough of the series.

I used to be kind of a min/maxer myself, especially in hack 'n' slash games. Nowadays I'm more of a completionist, as in completing games in reasonable sense, not meticulously hunting down every single collectible. Main and side storylines are enough for me, after which it's on to another game. As I mentioned in previous posts, I had a slight detour into mmos for a few months but frankly there's something about games with contained, finishable stories that's captivating in a way that an endless grind of multiplayer, unfinishable games simply cannot match.

Back on topic, I think I'm about halfway through the Beneath A Steel Sky, after which it's on to Flight of Amazon Queen and Teenagent.

100%! I guess we wouldn't have this thread if it wasn't true right? I feel like many of us "old school" crpgers (is that a word?) feel a lot like this since that was what most games were back then, i.e. Ultima, Might and Magic, Bard's Tale, Wasteland, etc.

There's actually a different matter entirely to this whole topic, namely that of requirements. Those games you mentioned can be played on a anything basically. Plus, you can enjoy them on the go wherever you are whether you are connected to the internet or not. Did you try Diablo 3? They actually kick the player out of a SINGLE PLAYER game when their internet connection is interrupted even for a second. People prefer to pirate the game, even after they purchased it legally, because pirated copies are actually of higher quality than official ones in this regard.

Yes, there's definitely a myriad of problems with modern gaming industry that can be circumvented by simply sticking to those older, single player games.

I actually DID play it, many years ago! It was sort of panned as a "dumbed down" console version sequel of the beloved PC original Deus Ex.

HOWEVER - I kind of enjoyed it. The powers were more "immediate" and will feel more like abilities in modern games. The hub city was sort of fun to explore and if you kind of "turn off your brain" and just want to enjoy a shooter with some RPG elements, upgrades and a chance to do some light decision making to alter missions it's a decent enough game.

I'm a lot more forgiving with stuff like this though - to me, it was fun - I knew what it was going to be and I think they succeeded at that - but if you're looking for a pure sequel of the original Deus Ex this isn't it.

But on it's own standing, I really didn't think it was a bad game and enjoyed my time with it.

Those games also didn't have the issues that more recent WRPGs, like Baldur's Gate, have. (Although Ultima 7 still has issues such as a horrendous combat system; my love of the Ultima series stops after 6, and even then the games have their issues.)

They also don't have the same issues that more recent JRPGs, like Final Fantasy 6 and 7 (and even 4), have. You don't need to waste time watching story sequences (which are the same (or mostly the same) on every playthrough) just to get to the actual gameplay.
Since November 1st I played (and finished) 6 Broken Sword games. I mean the originals and new versions of the first two games, then the freeware 2,5 (The Return of the Templars) and the third game. About 40 days for all of them back to back, so I got somewhat tired of the genre. I’ll play 4 and 5 another time.
As the Bard would say “Enough talk. Let’s see some action, some action”! Recently I bought The Bard’s Tale (the 2004 game) and I’m into it.

petrderbikov: I play Witcher 3 and Pubg. I recently passed Call of Duty 4. I mostly like various MMORPGs like warcraft and albion online. I also like to play money games lol. I don't know why, but when I play, I get a lot of emotions like intrigue, fun and just pleasure. Sometimes it's poker, sometimes slots or 21. Recently I played staking crypto (this is not an advertisement, I just want to share my experience with you). I even made some money lol. But here's the thing, you have to remember that this is a casino and you need to play wisely and not go into agony. If you follow these rules, you can actually make money!
Good day. I really like to play Fifa with my friends, you can have a lot of fun that way. I also really like to play on the platform https://forestcasinos.co.nz/casino-yukon-gold/, there are a large number of cool slots that you can play absolutely without investment. Games are what helps me relax.
I'm playing Postal Redux and Hatred. Both are DRM-free... at the store no one wants you to know about.
I'm playing The Outforce from a store with a name similar to ZOOM, the Software program. :)

Happy they added mod support to hatred and fixed Outforce, even if it took almost six months.

Edit: Someone might want to tell ZOOM the game is DRM free on steam. So it doesn't come off as lying saying the game is DRM free Exclusive to their Platform.

Just tested a few things in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, from a store whose name, if we ignore the ".com" at the end, is a palindrome. (Anyone know what store this might be?)

I don't see a store named A man, a plan, a canal: Panama.

I have finished The Bard's Tale (2004). Around 30 hours for me.
