New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

RWarehall: Looks to me like its the same old list with the same old occasional wacky games rising to the top of the list for no reason. Can't be sure though, but its a different list than the front page.
Really? I attached how my best selling list looks and it seems to have nothing in common with the old all-time bestsellers.

On the old one, there was Planescape and Baldurs Gate on the top followed by almost every DnD game with some Witchers and other stuff mixed in there.
From the old one I didn't own 1 game out of first 20 or 25, now it's 17 out of 25.
And in now way was SimCity 4, Black Mirror, Theme Park, Black Mirror 2, FF vs 3rd Reich, Silver, AI war, Gothic 3, Jade Empire, Privateer 2 or any Kyrandia (and probably few others). That's more than usual amount of wacky games.

Derwisch: on a throw with 6 dices you got 6 times a 1 !° ;-)
I think it's more like a -1 on d100.
I was just thinking while reading complaints about site when viewed in 4:3 resolution and wasted space on left-right-bottom...

Why can't this site be made like Wikipedia, that is, it should adapt to window size?

I mean look at this random site: http://www.istockphoto.com/ -- Look how it arranges tile/pictures when you resize the window. Space does not look wasted, people with 4:3 monitors can see everything without problems and it looks good on a phone.

Why are not all sites designed with that kind of functionality? :-/

WOW!!

So far I love the new interface, options and look. Very sleek and pleasing. I have not fully explored it all yet but is there a wallet feature yet? I look forward to really taking some time to get to know this new GOG.com. Nice work.
Please put it back the way it was , it looks like fucking iTunes or something now ... terrible ..
Wow... amazing refresh guys. Congrats! =')

+There will always be change-averse people. You know this, they just don't want to have to re-learn something... even a simple web re-layout / recolor of their favorite website.

Oh, and the DRM movies! Awesome addition! =')

Cheers!

Hmm. Perhaps GoG has money troubles and had to sell all their color monitors and dug out some monocrome, historic screens from the basement instead? That would explain the new, monocrome, dreary look.
Gog you must be insane by sending me email about the website changes and games removal 2 days after those things happened. I mean come on email receipt time shows as 28h August 11.18 pm for the email. Fix your mail servers please.

Why is even the logo grey in the upper bar? Could you please change it so it's the regular, green-and-yellow logo and not everything is just grey?
Very nice, I love the new look and site layout, my only complaint is that I would like to see the prices listed on my wishlist, as I am used to browsing the prices and just clicking on the price tag to add it to my cart. And the DRM-Free movies are welcome by me, as long as you continue to fully support and release more and more games alongside the movies. Overall, very impressed and excited to see what the future holds heading into global DRM-Free domination by the one and only GOG!

Oh, and also looking forward to the release of Galaxy, it is indeed a good time to be a GOGer!

Bit of a surprise seeing the new layout today. As much as I liked the old layout, it was due for a makeover (funnily enough I thought this a few days back). Functionally the new layout is much better, showing a lot more and looks more professional (though the toolbar at the top of the old site will be missed). It could do with some more colour though, maybe this could be a user configurable option? In addition, I preferred to see the prices in $ rather than £, though this may well be something I can change myself.

Adding movies was a bigger surprise, tbh I probably won't be too interested in them (yet) however it is a nice sideline and perhaps a clever complimentary good given the range currently on offer. I can'r see it affecting the games side of things on the site, so I'm confident that it will serve everyone well.

So to round up please add some colour to the site GOG, aside from that well done on the new layout. It looks more professional now and closer to something that will compete on a higher level and bring in new customers.

Edit - just found the currency change button at the bottom of the front page.

Edit 2 - just realised the toolbar of old is there once I sign in. I need to pay more attention :s

Pretty epic thread. many pages in a short time. I'm too lazy to read through all of this, so is someone bored enough to bullet list the general reaction so far? Generally positive? Generally Negative?

Note about Manual Shelf. While it stopped remembering my sort several months ago, this new look no longer even lets you move the games at all. Get a feeling shelf will somehow become redundant with Galaxy, but mentioning it just in case. Apologies if this has already mentioned.

I would say about 70/30 for negative - the biggest problem zero colour and missing features from the old website and plenty of buggs + industrial look of the website (morque like) and sluggishness of the website.
