gbaz69: I'm sure there are ways to block this. (like only being able to create one or two threads a day for a new account, or for an account with low rep).

Or by only allowing people to post if they got a non-free game (either buy buying it themselves, or by redeeming a gog gift).

:D AIR JORDANS!! :D
I dont think any of that will reduce the import price of your hot sexy escort

Uh, not that recaptcha crap. If for whatever reason google doesn't like you, you can't pass it.

That would be unfair. It would be like charging a fee for posting...

That idea has "abuse" written all over it. In fifty-feet-high flaming letters...

Yeah, automatic bans are definitely not the way to go. A better solution would be something like a graduated flood control. For instance, the default flood control is 1 minute between posts; a reasonable automatic response to spam reports is to double the flood control time every time a user's post gets deleted due to a sufficient number of spam reports (cap the increased flood control time at, say, 1 hour, and have it reset after 24 hours). This would drastically reduce the impact spammers could have once people start reporting them without having a huge potential for abuse. Although I'm not sure how easy such a thing would be to implement in the forum code (really depends on how the forum is already coded).

I agree with the cooldown between multiple posts (and threads!), but disagree about the spam auto-delete measures, because they could be easily exploited by the scammers (they control multiple accounts).

P.S: nobody should be allowed to add a post\thread right after his previous one! (they aren't joined anymore after X seconds)

Threads and posts being automatically deleted if enough people report them as spam has been implemented for a while now, and I haven't heard any reports of it being abused. There's certainly the potential for abuse, but it seems that so far, on these forums, it hasn't been an issue (and has also be pretty helpful in keeping spam bots from mucking up the forum too much before they can be banned).

Well, the current scammers proved to be complete idiots so far, so I'm not surprised ( no, it's not hard to fool generous people :\ ).
If your info is exact, that seems a big forum flaw in my opinion (unless the report threshold is quite high).

It's the kind of thing that probably wouldn't work on most forums, but so far has worked here. Also, since the blues don't spend all that much time policing the forums it's proved to be a good stop-gap measure to keep the first few pages of a forum from being completely filled with spam threads between a spam bot showing up and the account being deleted (which can sometimes take a few hours). If it starts getting abused at some point the system will likely be re-evaluated, but until then it seems to be doing a lot more good than harm.
