rtcvb32: I'd hate to require that they have bought something from the store before being able to use the forums, but that could work too... As the likelihood of you needing help on one of the free games seems unlikely...
Well, you can only see the game specific support forums after buying the game (therefore buying the support too), so seeing the general board after buying any game seems legit.

I just logged in and ... arg !
Well, get busy with the "report spam" button, people! ;-)

rtcvb32: I don't see why it couldn't be added...

But limited posts with low rep might help, making them wait merely means they will make more accounts so when one goes down the next is ready to take it's place...

Encoding such a thing isn't easy. Limited post count for new accounts could help. Auto informing admins when new accounts post a lot in a short time would help too.
Having to have bought something blocks new potential customers from asking questions first before buying anything.
I would also prefer to leave the spam account enabled for a while but disable it's posting abilities. It's most likely an automated bot, so disabling would result in the creation of a new account. Keeping it enabled might prevent that.
Forcing some kind of human interaction to activate an account wouldn't hurt either.

A few of the threads have already been removed...

Hmmm if only i could add my own little help to the forums and DB... and wouldn't take much either to help, here or in the requests section...

As far as I know, if enough people mark the OP of a thread as spam in a sufficiently short time, the thread is removed automatically. So you can help. Use that "report spam" button.

True... Although posting on the general thread isn't needed if you have a game specific question, and you don't really need support... Actually due to the age of the games, it's unlikely any technical support would be needed and anyone needing help would refer to a walkthrough before going to the forums...

Buying something first would be a minor annoyance... of course 'buying' should include free games too which removes the problem... And it's not like they couldn't contact support for help, they just couldn't ask the community right away. I honestly didn't start using the forums or reading them til one of the insomnia sales (with Jack Keen 2 lasting 6+ hours to sell 600 copies....)

Uhm, no. You can see all the game specific subforums always, regardless of whether you own the game or not.

You have to downrate the post first for the link to appear.
