richlind33: So who's going to be checking the "fact-checkers"? o.O
avatar
mecirt: To quote, for example, the FAQ on snopes.com, one of the original fact-checkers. The same will apply to any fact-checkers worth taking seriously.

Q: How do I know the information you’ve presented is accurate?

A: We don’t expect anyone to accept us as the ultimate authority on any topic. Unlike the plethora of anonymous individuals who create and send the unsigned, unsourced e-mail messages that are forwarded all over the Internet, we show our work. The research materials we’ve used in the preparation of any particular page are listed in the bibliography displayed at the bottom of that page so that readers who wish to verify the validity of our information may check those sources for themselves.
avatar
mecirt:
That only works if people actually go to the trouble of verifying sources, which is extremely rare; in fact, the reason most people go to sites like Snopes to begin with is so they can avoid the tedium of verifying sources, so that's a worthless and disingenuous disclaimer.
Good job Lin, you managed to turn a gaming forum into a rally for little wannabe white socialists. :P

So you're going to chimp out until the thread gets locked? o.O
Hey guys, I'm selling t-shirts for fans of this thread!

ZFR: And that's the crux of the problem. If Firefox starts censoring out Fake New, someone might rightfully fear they end up censoring News They Don't Like.

This might actually have been an interesting topic to discuss, if had made a [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiquette_in_technology#Netiquette]proper , with a summary and [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperlink]link(s) at the end, instead of the one he made.
And if he hadn't then asked for a politics-free discussion after making a politically-charged post.
As it is, I'm staying out.

Lin545: ZFR, with all respect, your links are substance-empty.

I understand that you question the way I posted, please create a new post with proper formating and etiquette, then I will change the OP to the better version.

"politically-charged post" Where is it politically charged? If you claim that I have posted something incorrect, then please correct me. Thanks.
I meant only to illustrate that the format of your post was particularly hard to follow. A much better one would have been a summary, followed by link or links. Like so:

Using GOG? Then you should know this:

Gog is bundling Galaxy with all its installers for some of their games. Although Classic Installers are available too, it's not easy for new users to find them.
Link 1

Evidence suggests that the notorious JudasIscariot, previously responsible for removing notifications, might be the mastermind behind this move:
Evidence link 1
Evidence link 2
Other than that, having spent as much time as you have on these forums, you should have known better than to start a topic like this and expect a nice politics-free discussion.

Either way, good luck. I didn't mean my first post, or this one, to be a personal attack on you.

Fake news alert! Need fact-checkers -- STAT!!!
I'm concerned about the idea of this, seeing legitimate news sites being censored or outright blocked like "The Intercept", "The Guardian", "Al Jazeera English", "Der Spiegel", etc.
"The Intercept" is already on the government's hit list for employing Glenn Greenwald who has consistently and deservedly humiliated some agencies within' our government(God forbid our government should lose Face and save American and foreign lives in the process). Additionally, employees in one of the intelligence agencies were told to ignore the site even. God forbid credible journalism should be read.

Am I the only one who completely fails to understand the OP and sees just badly phrased incomprehensible sentences full of words without proper common meanings to them before his eyes? Or rather, common words with uncommon meanings implicated, I don't know, I know I can't make sense of it.

tl;dr Firefox plans to censor stuff they don't like.

A corporation imposing censorship on the internet should be cause for concern, but apparently it is now okay because... ? I honestly have no idea why. Last I had heard, most people disliked China's version of the internet. Guess I've been away too long.
Clint will save us from this evil peril!

It would be impossible to have a global communist takeover nowadays unless you shut down the internet but since shutting down the whole internet may not be technologically possible anymore, they will try to censor it with so-called artificial intelligence. DARPA invented the internet to provide anti-communist forces with a decentralized command and control system in the event of a limited nuclear exchange followed by Soviet invasion in case the Cold War went hot. Now after a successful infiltration by communist elements a generation later, DARPA has to ironically undo its own creation.

The communists still haven't found a way to mitigate those 100 million pesky American militiamen though...

Thank you. I knew firefox has been trash for many years and a lot of the idiots that use it claim "mozilla cares about your privacy".
I wonder how they'll defend this.
