We would like to inform you that, due to our storage and CDN provider's outage, we are encountering technical issues that may cause difficulties in downloading and updating your games both through the GOG GALAXY client and GOG Store. Already downloaded files are in no way affected.

We are trying to mitigate this external problem by switching to our secondary storage while our provider is restoring data. We would also like to highlight that those issues do not affect purchasing games. Currently available discounts on selected titles will not be extended due to the above.

It is our team's top priority to resolve those issues and we aim to resolve them as fast as possible. Apologies for any inconveniences caused.

That's fine. However, most don't have persistent broken downloads that their userbase have to beg for them to fix (especially given how hard it is to reach support).

That's the crux of my beef with GOG on this issue right now.

Atm, they have to proactively act on it because its widespread, but if it is an installer file that is not too popular, well s*cks to be you.

As long as the Galaxy users and otherwise people who only play wildly popular games are taken cared of, its fine right?

I swear to you, each time this will happen to me in the future, I won't buy a single game from them for 3 months. This is just complacent.

For those who are waiting for the 1.0 release of "Delta V: Rings of Saturn", here's a little something I just saw on their discord:

"Due to independent from us failure of content delivery servers, we have to postpone the GOG release of 1.0 until next week.

A server failure means that we cannot guarantee which version of the game you'd receive after purchase - and while we are certain that these would be one of the 1.0.x builds, the 1.0 release is a big step, and we want to make it perfect for all the players. After consulting with our partners at GOG, we decided to postpone the fireworks of the 1.0 release on GOG until next week - hopefully, Monday, when we can ensure that all the GOG users will receive exactly the same build as everybody else.

This will not affect the rest of our release schedule. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Swedrami: Wimps and posers leave the hall! Making your way through directories, subdirectories and folders until you get to the .exe is the trve and only sanctioned way to boot up and run games.
Huh? "Start menu", "directories"? What is all this modern nonsense?
Normally, you just insert the game's boot floppy disk and power up your Personal Computer TM. That's it!

I prefer desktop shortcuts.

A good decision on their part, IMHO.

"ΔV: Rings of Saturn" is known for having updates released very frequently. Its demo, for example, has been updated 9 times in the past 5 weeks.

It is second only to the well-known "Dreadful River" demo, which has been updated 19 (!) times in the past 5 weeks, sometimes as many as thrice in a single day.

Agreed and let me add that the devs are also unbelievably responsive and helpful on their discord. It is a very small studio but they REALLY care about their game and their customers ... no matter if they are GOG or Steam customers, They even cared about an achievement problem I had with GOG Galaxy achievements. Everybody should support them imo.

I have gone one step further, I use only keyboard shortcuts for everything. I currently have 64 shortcuts (mostly Alt-Ctrl-Key or Shift-Ctrl-Key), all managed through the highly-recommended Clavier+ (https://gryder.org/software/clavier-plus/?lang=en). My desktop is entirely empty.

Oh I'm totally with you on that. The offline installers should be the premier method of distribution, including old versions and all that -- always up to date and not requiring Galaxy for reversions, and 100% content-complete offline versions [with languages separated out as appropriate, like with Witcher...]. I was just referring to to the people who are doom-and-gloom like they'd never seen a web outage before or that GOG is somehow disastrous that it is having a CDN issue this one time.

Do I get it correctly the two low-probability events overlap:
a) your storage solution is down
b) the (alternative to your storage that should take over) CDN provider is also down.

That seems like a very rare chain of events. Do you share the same datacenter/region?
Is it because of the prominent heat wave across Europa?

Why? Games is not part of the store name.

It usually comes up immediately if I type it in, with games at the end. At least for me. Sometimes even with platform I still have look for it.

Or just type in the URL.

Syphon72: Come on, you know that's not really a myth.
He uses SteamCMD, which is still a Steam Client, just it is very cutback and without bloat, being the command-line version. Your ownership of a game you want to download from Steam is still checked, against credentials you provide. But that happens even with your browser when you login to GOG or with Galaxy.

Any game from Steam can be downloaded and verified for errors using SteamCMD. It however does not guarantee that the game is DRM-Free, which is something you need to check yourself or have prior knowledge of.

SteamCMD also doesn't download an installer file, as it installs to a folder, just like the regular GUI version of the Steam Client. So to backup that game, if DRM-Free, you need to backup the folder, perhaps compress to a ZIP or RAR or 7Z file to save on storage space.

Many games at Steam are DRM-Free, though you need to refer to one or two lists out there of such, and hope they are up-to-date ... or you need to do proper checking yourself on a Steam free PC.
