Dying Light's Enhanced Edition is not a remaster. It is the accumulation of all DLCs and patches of the game's first year of release, along with some improved visuals and optimization to improve performance. With that in mind:

1) The original version was not released on GOG. GOG only got the Enhanced Edition.
2) Requirements for both versions are the same.
3) The game doesn't officially support laptop graphic cards.

If your PC can't handle the Enhanced Edition, it's highly unlikely it could handle the original version.

Unfortunately this is one of the big perils of digital downloads, certainly if the provider does not allow access to older version files or the store doesn't. In fact the store may even remove older versions to save on storage space, as they all build up over time and for thousands of games that means a lot of space.

Of course, if much smaller patch files were used, then they really wouldn't have an excuse that stands up to scrutiny.

Without a doubt, if they really cared they would have something viable in place for customers, and it wouldn't be that hard to do so. So you can pretty much take it that they don't care about us ... only our money.

It would be nice if us customers could collectively do something about the situation, but alas copyright rules aren't that advanced yet to make it legal.

The OP has it right though .... definitely UNFAIR the current situation.

The good news is that GOG will generally offer a refund if something like this happens (system requirements change due to an update). They don't advertise as such, but some countries (like Australia) require them to refund if something like this changes, even well outside the normal terms of their refund policy. I recently had a problem with a game DLC not being added to my account (everyone who was entitled had this issue) and they told me I could refund, despite the game having released many months before, my purchase was a pre-purchase, and I've logged MANY hours in Galaxy. It is a case by case thing, but it is definitely an issue where if the game cannot deliver what was promised at the time of purchase, they will make it right. I assume that is because these issues affect a very small subset of customers.

Ah, well that sucks. I addressed that in one of my previous posts already: you can only buy what's available - there's no "right" to buy whatever we want, whenever we want.

The original edition of Dying Light was never here, AFAIK. We've only had the Enhanced Edition, Platinum, and now Definitive. Definitive replaced Platinum. In any case, Dying Light wasn't meant to be played with integrated graphics. You could have spent that money on a desktop and gotten something nicer than the laptop.

Not really convenient if the games you want don't run on it. Wouldn't mind if the original edition were available here, though.

In general, this should be a bog standard feature for digital distribution platform, at least on a storefront that prides itself for being pro-gamer, respecting one's ownership of games, etc. Galaxy has rollback, but in a limited scope that varies based on game/publisher. It also seems to feature only a couple of the most recent builds in the list, unless the dev made a specific beta branch with the old version, which is a more permanent option.

BandanaBob, I would suggest for the future though (if it is a viable option for you) to get a desktop pc instead. Heck, even some decent second hand build (even partial one) after some gamer who goes for the latest and greatest would be a night and day difference vs generic "office" laptop. You can save a lot of money, while getting the best price:performance ratio that way. Even if you bought new parts, something like ryzen5 3600 or intel equivalent, 16gigs of ddr4, rx580 8gig and standard sata3 ssd + some 1080p larger display for nice readability. You would be set for a couple hundred quid and with some tweaking it would still last you for a while at 1080p/60fps target. Definitely check your local options first, to see what kind of performance you can get for your money and find the sweet spot with maybe some futureproofing, depending on your budget.

Also don't mind those who love to bend over to whims of corporations, saying how preposterous is to ask or difficult to downright impossible something pro-customer is to implement. The least we can do is to voice our opinion and share the feedback with those who are in the business thanks to our money. I know I did precisely that on numerous occasions, I vote with my wallet and I'm aware of my options / alternatives to fix the stuff myself if things gets worse.

Atlo, I forgot to mention but you can switch off auto-updates in galaxy, if you haven't already. It's in the Settings > Game features, Auto-updates off. Afterwards if any game has an update queued, you would have to manually click to update it either on the game's library entry or in the Downloads section. I would also disable cloud saves. I've had them cause trouble when the upload got scrambled and then it forced an overwrite of my good saves with the corrupt ones. I back em up manually when I need to instead.

Just launched galaxy after a good while and it updated some games on its own at launch, but I've checked the files and they all were just the uninstaller files and file lists. No game data were changed.

What's more, only the executable sections (maybe 100Mb of data) is what you'd need to replace. (Textures, models, map data, and other things will have no effect unless some format change (unlikely), and unless there's different features added those data files don't need to be changed out.).

Though making a differential patch is a bit harder when they pack everything together so you can't compare or swap out individual files. This is probably a larger reason for 60Gb patches in recent years.

Honestly if they don't support having the older version(s) that will run for you, you may have to find it elsewhere; them force-feeding you the 'current' version isn't the way to go.

Sounds like Windows Update. When the OS updates it likes to forget your privacy settings and go back to telemetry and spying on you.... And said updates aren't allowed to be delayed too long.

I prefer to blame galaxy.
I'm not even sure if my Win7 updates itself.
