WinterSnowfall: Not even the Earth 2150 Trilogy? It's like the X3:AP of strategy games you know :P.
Nope, nothing, I looked carefully. I always thought the Earth series were like the Total War series but never looked into them. I might look into them if you think I should but I kind of have too many RTS as is already.
from STEAM: Raidor [dph] [developer]
Please let us talk about this seriosly.

I would say here are two differnt topics 1.) Microtransactions and 2.) console commands and cheats

1.) we know from Xbox Live, that a lot of players like it to purchase items - I personally would not spend my money for this, but it seems like a lot of others do. Mainly in Multiplayer, but also in Single Player Mode. So the Pros are:
- who wants it can spend money, who not does not have to spend money. TW2 is not designed in the way that purchased items are required to finish the game.
- in Multiplayer people can decide if they want to play with purchased items or not
- the developer receives some extra money (same as from Trading cards) - and I think this is a pro! or has someone anything against that a developer makes some money?
Cons:
- no idea? give me some
2.) Console Commands - Pros for having them:
- the developers and testers do not need to handle seperate Executables
- experienced users can optimize the game
- players can cheat, if they want
and Cons for having the console in:
- users can damage their game and produce weired configurations.
- if console commands can be used it is difficult to reproduce crashes
- in Multiplayer console commands are a no go.
- in Single player Microtransactions can be undermined with console commands
- we do not know, if it is possible to manipulate Steam Microtransactions with console commands. In the documentation it is highly recommended to disable them.

... so ... write your opinions, please.
Having cheats and console commands in a game is not a game feature. It is usually for developers and unlocked. The current GOG version has also no console commands. I mean the version we are just uploading. So better not buy it again. Only chance to get the console back is to convince us to put it back.
I don't get it, did they modify the game recently, or did the GOG version never have console commands?

He said they're uploading it right now so if people want the original with the console commands, they should download and backup the standalone installer now. Galaxy downloads will probably update as soon as their upload is complete but standalone version will need GOG staff to build and upload the installers so they won't be updated until sometimes next week.

This update is handled manually by us (or me). We are in process of receiving builds, but they came too late to be handled today.
There will be no update over the weekend, Galaxy or otherwise.

That's a contradiction in terms: you can never have too many RTS games :D.

Yeah, I can definitely recommend the series. The graphics are a bit dated by modern standards (since it was the first true 3D strategy series after all), but it grows on you as you play it, that's why it reminded me of X3.

Please keep an option to not have the update, considering it disables the console and adds microtransactions that's a MAJOR change.

I take it that you have no choice but to update to the crippled version right? Any chance you can take a stand against shady business practices or have a discussion with Topware about it?

I strongly suspect no - but at least thank you for letting us know and giving us a chance to get the non-crippled version before it's too late.

Once again thank you Thiev!

Thanks for the info. But, will the new update of the game actually have micro-transactions now? I didn't know that was allowed on GOG - maybe I'm oblivious, are there other games with micro-transactions on site?
I haven't even looked at the build, so I cannot comment what state it is in. And removing the rollback feature is not currently planned.

That's a Galaxy only feature though.

I don't see how that would be possible as is fortunately. As far as I can tell from reading steam forums, the micro-transactions are implemented using Steam Marketplace so unless devs developed entirely separate system for GOG version, it won't have one. Though, console commands will still be removed apparently.
If its gets microtransaction users have not agreed to pay for when they bought the game first hand, I hope there'll be a possibility for a refund or keeping the old version.

Would it be possible to preserve the old stand alone installers as unsupported game goodies like GOG has done few times before?

Technically it is possible, but the decision won't be mine. I won't have any real info for you till next week, sorry.

Ditto. I don't see how GOG can accommodate the new version without breaking its core values. Replacing an old game on the storefront with another version riddled by microtransactions dances the line. Replacing a game in the GOG user's library with that same version picks up that line and whips us to death with it. It would mean the publishers are now in control of our private libraries.
