i was just wondering, what does reputation points mean and what are the consequences of having them in the negative? i had a bunch of games on gog and steam and blizzard that i offered up on the gog trading platform, did some good trades and even gave a copy of a really good triple A game over at a community giveaway here on gog. i was "attacked" by scammers under various aliases and got scammed too. naturally i stopped trading and gave them to reputable people here on gog to gift to other people. my rep was +60 at the time. i used to log into gog for my games and occasionally visited the forums to see what was happening but didn't actually participate for several months. day by day, i saw my rep take a hit well into the negatives. now there are several posts that have been rejected, even if some aren't even websites. so shhould i be concerned about what is happening? should i contact support? i'm confused as to what i should do next.

tinyE: Those scammers that got you are probably the same ones that have stripped me of 1100 points.
Actually, that was me. I've been down-repping you and up-repping a bunch of forum trolls. I got the idea after watching Trading Places.

Right now there is nothing you can do about it because GOG is too busy helping Alaric destroy what is left of the forum.
yowsers, I can't believe how much your rep has dropped. Not that it matters to me, I've always held you in high regard.

They play 'Word Association'

All the best

We have a gentleman's club here where we just sit around all day and up-vote each others' posts. We're also Freemasons and members of the new and improved Hellfire Club. So mote it be.

They've been posting for ages and never got targeted by the derepping. You usually see it in people who keep out of political discussions and don't go after scammers.

1. Rep means nothing. It was originally intended as a measure of how "active" a user is, but it's not even good for that anymore.
2. There's no consequences of a negative rep other than not being able to post links (a feature put in place with the intention of preventing spam). There's an easy way of getting around it, just a bit of a bother.
3. The aforementioned scammers probably derepped you. NES and Wakalo have admitted to as much before, it apparently makes them feel powerful or something.
4. Rejected? You mean it wouldn't post? That typically happens if the forum doesn't like the formatting.
5. Nah, don't be concerned. So long as the community likes you, you're fine. There's nothing you need to do next but be a decent guy. Contacting support over it is a waste of time, as they're already well aware of the situation and have been for years. They won't do anything about it.

Tauto: Used to be alts
Either that, or we were just around at a time when massive down-repping was not a thing and we had time to build up slowly but surely just by posting and answering a few questions here and there. Also giving away games, posts offering games were regularly up-rated.

Easy.

Constantly spam- I mean post in certain threads. Many "forum game" threads encourage this sort of behaviour.

Tinyeee, Fables started fixing the forum BEFORE Alaric.
And she also started her job since a few weeks: you can't expect her to fix all asap!

I'm not blindly trusting that she'll be able to do it, but I don't dismiss her words either.
And I'd never expect big improvements so early on any site.

Yes, I know that GOG ignored us for years and blabla, but now there's a chance, even if slim.

Tauto: You early starters always get the jump on the field.
Quite correct. Early bird catches the worm, as the saying goes. Meep-meep!
