Holy shitfart in a rainstorm!

I accidentally clicked on the gamergate thread. I have not seen so much ugliness before outside of outright racist rallies.

...worse still, I see forum regulars I (used to) respect in there being bigoted fucking cunts.

Really reconsidering staying around here if people have those kind of attitudes.
You can't take the measure of a person by their religious or political affiliation (unless is stuff like the KKK), but you can by seeing how they behave in religious or political discussions.

Very true!
I'm not usually one to talk too much about my persona life, but today I'm just...relieved. After a full year of living on the verge of having absolutely nothing but concrete to sleep on, selling some of my stuff because I was desperately in need of money, barely able to pay my bills, eating the cheapest stuff I could afford because it was ALL I could afford, I've finally come through the other side of the tunnel. I'm not jumping around and bouncing off the walls, but I'm relieved and I can feel the stress starting to melt away slowly but surely. My trek through absolute and complete poverty is over, I survived and all I can do is smile, and if I ever have to face it again, I can at least say I know how to handle it.

not an easy thing to go through - im there myself in many ways (and really always have been). I personally think that everybody should have to face the world in such a way at some point. not out of mean spiritedness, but because without knowing that first hand... people tend to be a bit shit. i always think of it as a "gap year" replacement - and far more manditory for those brought up with money, than those without.

rememeber being lost in london one day - only person that bothered to help me was homeless. didnt want anything in return. didnt even want thanks. just wanted to see someone have a better one. turned out they occasionally slept in the door of the pub my sister worked at - so they ended up being rewarded anyways with some free food and the odd beer - but it wasnt on their agenda. try getting a suit to even give you the time of day... difficult business that!
After a quick peek, I'm glad I haven't followed the gamergate thread. Should have done the same with the Greek referendum thread.

I know I have my own reasons for not touching those kinds of threads with a 10 foot pole.

That's a thing I definitely have to learn. With a general interest in politics it simply draws my attention and while some posts are elaborated and well presented, others really make me wonder. Afterwards I'm upset and knowing it would be of no use, I end up having a hard time not responding. No fun.

While I wish I hadnt seen within... I'm kinda glad - not knowing how much of a bigot some people are isnt a good thing. Dunno about the greek thread - but its true of the gamergate one. Certainly some people wont be getting any gifts from me as a result.
You can all have your own dumb opinions (if they can even be called that), but I'm not giving you anything other than air or water.

Edit: latter part of post not directed at BillyMaysFan59 who can also have fajitas!

I read part of the Gamersgate thread at one point but gave up after awhile feeling rather sadder/ much more irritated but not much wiser on the issue. I had the feeling the Greek thread was going to be similar so I haven't gone in there either, though I am concerned about Greece's prospects.

Why not? I was hoping you'd gift me a copy of Gone Home.
Shows up in loincloth and with paintbrush time for cave painting :)

I agree all around! I've never been close to touching even the lower end of "middle class" but going through absolute poverty (well as poor as you can get without actually being homeless to be fair) still took some getting used to, but valuable lessons were had.

Never thought I'd get a chance to unironically quote Spinal Tap but here goes "Folks help each other out in a hell hole" haha.
