Gnostic: So I assume you agree that people decide to expand the word meaning to include the meaning of religious knowledge too.
And yes, Gnosticism is mostly used in religious scripture now, and that include religion other then Christianity too.
And how you know I am Agnostic?
My belief align more to Buddhist teaching (the philosophy) that everyone can be a GOD (Buddha), and no one can save you but yourself. Great teachers like Buddha, Confucius, Jesus only show the way.
And when interpreting their teaching, one must go through the process of logical thinking. because the teachings are written after Siddhattha Gotama, Confucius, Jesus death and edited by their disciples with their own favor of thinking and translated into many language will lost many of its meaning.
And Siddhattha Gotama, Confucius, Jesus is not free from mistake too.
some, but the honest man instead breaks down Torah character by character and comes to see the meaning of how it was put together, it is very tell tale. And yes, Gnosticism is mostly used in religious scripture now, and that include religion other then Christianity too.

the Buddhist make references to "the Great Man", who do you think that is? See Te Tao Ching.
Buddha was enlightened, and that only comes from truth, for lies are of darkness, the "tin and Yang" if you will, but, the meaning is the same, the most concise understanding is to be found in the Zohar, which is an indepth study of the first 5 books, the same books that were given John in Revelations 10, the one that was "sweet on the lips and bitter in the belly".
it wasn't the disciples that did it, the real problem is that you can't express hebrew thought in greek writing.
for a long time I was upset with St. Jerome for the way it is, then I went back and studied the Septuagint, and that lead me back to the original hebrew. See, when you translate between the two the underatanding of whats going on behind the scenes gets lost and it gets twisted completely, i can give you a good example of this, it's a terrible thing really.
for an example lets look at Exodus 10:8, I'll start with a single word here, bear with me, lets start with the word "Mi", which means "Who". I'll start on this page: http://biblehub.com/hebrew/4310.htm
on the lower right there are references to this word is in scripture, lets go down to Exodus 10:8, inline, hebrew and english. the link takes you to this page: http://biblehub.com/text/exodus/10-8.htm
see the differences it makes? a double usage of a sacred word, Mi, which is a reference to the Divine Mother, Wisdom.
one is a question (the english), the other a statement, it ends with a period.
this is your real problem with it is you haven't realised where it started to get off-track and how to actually make sense of the book.
the real root of the problem was with the 70 hebrew scholars that compiled the law of the jews into greek, they didn't know how to express it so that the greek woudl actually get it. Notice the same english mistranslation is actually present in the Septuagint, it is in mine anyways, the Septuagint was the first non-hebrew version.
think what you will, but Jesus never sinned (my forefathers called him Cheezoos, he was the 8th prophet of the seven fires prophecy, native american ideals, mind you the oldest 10 commandments carved in stone in Hebrew are actually in New Mexico, in a place called Los Lunas, in Paleo-Hebrew, which hasn't been used in thousands of years now, the language the scrolls (Torah) were in originally).
your idea isn't the real idea of Toaism, Buddhism, etc.. either, this "philosophy" you describe is about self-servingness and ego, replacing god, and that is no philosophy at all but rather a lack thereof. The original "Philosophers" were actually religious and avoiding persecution by changing the words slightly and never mentioning god, but they describe the same, the real ones anyways, don't try to include Plato in that group, cause he would say anything to keep his position and his most used strategy when approached with a question was to give the bearer 100 more questions to add on top of his own.
have you ever considered reading Seneca the Younger? he was enlightened, as much as Buddha, a servant to Nero Ceasar, albeit unwillingly in all reality, he was like a captive adviser. Like many other wisemen have been, including in asia.
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/On_the_Firmness_of_the_Wise_Man << awesome read, I think you will like it in all truth, is a great investment in time, very rewarding, enjoy.
btw, the version of Te Tao Ching I am using is the one that was translated in 1973 by Robert G. Henricks.

it makes refernces to god brother, the "Great Man", not you, not I, BUT HE.
