As someone of you already read in the Communitygiveawaythreads from Finkleroy, I plan together with Makotolia to do a giveaway for the chinese community that is stuck now home because of the corona virus. Now I made this thread for one to ask if other people want to participate in gifting games too and second if the rules are okay.

My first one would be that they do not have more then 250 games because if they do, they have enough games already to play.
Second one they would need at least some activity in the forum for profing, they are not there to just grab a free game.
Third they need to write a whole cheering up sentence in chinese for one making other people feel better and second to proof, they are not just writing with google translate.

My other problem is, that I am completely got surprised from new GoG's system regulation so that you can not buy a gifted game on sale more then once every 24 hours, mayby as a countermeasure for keysellers so that people do not buy on sale games cheap and than resell them. If no one else gonna help I think I will gonna let Makotolia decide, who writes the nicest messages and get one copy of either Baldur's Gate, Stardew Valley, or Stronghold Crusader 2 Special Edition. Mayby I will stick with it.
Do you guys have any more ideas or comments?

i would suggest maybe giving games to ANY Chinese user(I assume that's the target block of potential winners) who signed up before maybe January or so who has under that many or so games(if a person with close to that amount but a bit over tries to enter I guess you could use your best judgement :))....otherwise that sounds good. :)

The problem with this is you'd likely need to also use google/etc translate on it, which might botch it up and make it seem like an entry isn't from an actual Chinese citizen....well unless you or someone you know can read Chinese/etc, that is.

There is that limit on game buying, and ALSO one user can only buy ten purchases(even if one game each) per 24 hours...I don't know the maximum total game limit per day is, but I DO know one cannot make more than 10 purchases per 24 hours.

As for help, I might join in a bit with maybe a 5 dollar game or a few games up to around that much, but I wouldn't be able to do do until after the 3rd of next month(March).....so yer call if you want to wait for me to join then or not. :)

Maybe allow people in neighboring areas like Hong Kong/etc a chance as well? Just a thought. :)

Sorry for the off-topic but what is that new GoG system regulation?

Do you say that now i only can buy a game as a gift every 24 hours? And no multi code gift i guess.

And the other side, can you only buy ten games in a purchase as limit?

If someone can explain me this please.
Hong Kong? Naaah, forget it. We got a problem with people hoarding toilet paper but good internet and we all go out anyway, with masks on.
LOL apparently 250 is the bar of owning too many games.

My only suggestion is to not named it "Corona Virus Giveway" for the real giveaway later. The name open for another interpretation.
Here are some thoughts of mine about this giveaway, and some may sound, umm, somewhat negative, but I think they can be important, so please bear with me:
First of all, I really really appreciate the kindness you guys show to my countrymen at this difficult time. I consider myself a loner, but for this time alone, allow me to thank you guys in the behalf of my countrymen :) And, actually, even if this giveaway somehow doesn’t get pulled off (for the reasons below), personally, I still thank you guys no less than it does.
Now some potential problems that I think may exist:
1. Chinese user on GOG may not be that many. I just check the Chinese sub forum, and there are much less activities than in this English one. I myself haven’t posted there for a very long time since my last post. I think there are more Chinese users than it seems to be, but they may not have that much activities here. There’s this 百度贴吧 baidu tieba thing (maybe somewhat like Reddit?), where Chinese group under all kinds of topics, including GOG gaming (https://tieba.baidu.com/f?kw=gog&fr=wwwt you may check it here if interested. All in Chinese though), and tieba.baidu.com may be their go-to choice when they want to discuss something related to GOG, instead of here on GOG.com. And there are also other platforms and communities, but I’m not that familiar with, since I usually only use the English forum.
Umm, so, in a word, I worry about if there will be enough participants.
2. The second one that comes to my mind is more, umm, sophisticated? That I wanna remind any potential donors that, just as people from any other place around the world I think, Chinese people are not all nice. This virus problem may picture Chinese people as the poor victims, but still, there are nicer ones and meaner ones, and probably also, more closely related to this topic, ungrateful ones. This should not be a big issue to you who donate a lot in the past, but I just feel that it’s my duty to warn you about this, since it’s a special situation this time.

Hmm, these are about what I can think of at this moment. Sorry if I somewhat sound like an anti-Chinese person in disguise, but I think I should try to ensure that no donors regret their donations in the future. And there ARE nice people in China, and most of them are nicer than me ;)

One can buy 1 gift copy of each game/title per day....so if you want to buy two gift copies of the game Blood, for example, then you need to buy one & then wait until 24 hours or so have passed(till the next day) to buy another.

As for 10 games limits: One can only make 10 purchases/transactions(of gifted games or games bought for one's own use) per 24 hours/per day.

I don't know how many games TOTAL one can buy per day/per 24 hours, but I did 10 transactions/purchases(each just 1 game per transaction) some time back for a contest I started here, and when I tried making an 11th transaction it wouldn't go through. A mod told me that is a limit(10 transactions per account per day).

I hope the above info is clear and helps. :)

kharille: Hong Kong? Naaah, forget it. We got a problem with people hoarding toilet paper but good internet and we all go out anyway, with masks on.
Still, I think HK citizens and those nearby should be allowed to enter as well, due to being closer to the affected zones. :)

(Of course this is ultimately up to OP, of course :))

zlaywal: LOL apparently 250 is the bar of owning too many games.
I think what OP is trying to do is make sure the games go more to eligible people from those areas who will play them and be more appreciative to get a free game to play(i.e. those with very small libraries). ;)

(Because of course that's nothing compared to some user's backlogs/libraries)

zlaywal: My only suggestion is to not named it "Corona Virus Giveway" for the real giveaway later. The name open for another interpretation.
Maybe "The Corona Relief(through gaming/games) giveaway"? That is on point and more respectful, and also not as likely to be taken the wrong way by anyone. :)

Or it could be that many just don't post much perhaps?

(IIRC around 85% of the site's users don't use the forums, or around that)

IDEA: We link to the giveaway on such sites or ask someone to do so.....then people will see it and we'll get more entries. :)

Sound good?

There are ungrateful people and scammers/etc in ALL lands, though, sadly.......imo OP should go ahead with it anyways, to give games to those who are eligible and who will be grateful. :)

Hmm, maybe you are actually from HK and the HK user above is from China...what a TWIST! o.0 :D

(To all: the above reply bit is a joke, and posted to give everyone a laugh and also is posted in good faith :))

But yeah, there ARE nice people like you and for some a nice game might hit the spot and be a welcome sight......as such I hope OP goes ahead with this and some of your fellow counterymen/women get a nice game to play from this. :)

Hi, yes, it clarifies myself, thank you!!, the only problem i see is if you want to buy two gift game codes that you must wait 24 hours at least. Well, i´ll have in mind for the next big sales. In the past i made probably 5 or 6 purchase on a day, i understood wrong before. Thanks!

You seem to have made one mistake in what I said, though.

You can buy more than one gift code per 24 hour period if the gift codes are for different games, but NOT if they are for the same game.

So every 24 hours you can buy gift codes for different games, but if you try buying two copies of the same exact game in the same 24 hour period it won't work.

Example: If you tried buying Blood and Blood 2 as gifts today it would work, BUT if you tried buying blood twice today it wouldn't work.

Got all that? :)

Putting 2+2 together, that suggests that Doc puts in a tremendous amount of work buying all his gift keys. On top of everything else.

Well that is why I asked MAkotolia for help, because he is a native and can so decide if this is real or just translated. But yeah this problem can easily be taken care of with the suggestion, all that are on GoG since Januar this year.

About that in China can be many Assholes, well I knew this already. This is one of the reasons, why I want, that users write something nice so a people think about being nice and what they can say to cheer other people up and b to sort those ungrateful out because if you can not be honestly nice you will likely not be gratefull for a gift.

Well if he buys different games and does one game/key per purchase then he could buy 10 per day...so it depends how many of the same game he buys and how many different games he buys...but yeah it likely took him 2-3 days for his bigger donations.

Then that sounds perfect. :)

Also did you see my bit about being able to help if you hold this off until next month? Sound doable or no?

I'd maybe go further and ask people to post a nice thing they did for others or that happened to them, or some nice story form their part of the world....that way they can't jusy copy paste something from the net....sound like a good idea or no?

Honestly no I did not saw this until now but I planed to start it anyway not before march so some of those that want to help can have time until. MAyby Doc will donate something too and I plan on buying at least Stronghold HD too.
Another important discussion, how long should we let people have time to post their nice things they did? One Weekend? One Week? The time until it is possible will be definitve until 4 AM UTC (aka Greenwich Mean Time)

That's ok, then...I could always make a smaller companion contest later on then if waiting that long isn't an option. :)

(OR you could post[as a prize] one 5 dollar[US] or around that store credit prize....and you pick the winner and I award THAT prize after the start of next month. Sounds doable/good? Your call. :))

They should likely have to post such when entering(or when told to if they forget to when entering), as with most other contests...though it is, of course, ultimately up to you.
