BlueMooner: Given that blue posts can be made to always appear at the top of a thread, perhaps it would be helpful to ask a blue to post something in this and the gog thread... something like "Everyone please read the first and second posts of this thread to understand the rules." Nothing fancy, just a single sentence.

I think it would save a lot of time on your (and others') part from constantly having to tell new peeps how this works. And to be fair to them, they can't really be blamed for not knowing to read the beginning. I think a simple post at the top of the thread would go a long way to fix a recurring problem.

If the blues were concerned doing so might make it look like they were giving some kind of "official" approval or participation in this, maybe they'd be willing to let someone else's post always appear at the top... yours for example.
When it comes down to it, I see it as an issue of basic common sense. If you don't know what a thread is about, you read the first post or two to find out. People who lack that common sense and/or are too lazy to do it on their own likely will ignore a stickied blue post. Also, the first post itself can be stickied, but every time I edit it, it'll no longer be stickied, and I'll have to request it be stickied again. In the end, there's nothing that can be done to force people to pay attention, so this will continue, and that's fine with me. Slightly annoying at times, perhaps, but fine.

Okay, just a suggestion.

And thank you very much for the suggestion. I always welcome helpful suggestions/feedback/criticism, even when I end up deciding against it.

Dogmaus: Many thanks to both of you fink and Cymepa! Now I can easily mod the Steam one to train - for example having a room full of spiders from the beginning so I don't have to wait until spiders come normally to practice with them, and keep the GOG one vanilla! Also, I can select what version to launch in Galaxy 2. This is some quality of life, I'm sure it'll help me to get better and rank a bit higher in those leaderboards. Spoiler: I suck. If anyone is interested, this is the tool I use to apply the community rooms:

Wow that is very cool. A quick google search showed a plethora of amazing mods by other users online. It brings me back to the original DOOM days. I'm glad the steam version allows modding which gives users more flexibility. Most games nowadays with DRM are locked tight. So it's great that you can keep the GOG version as an original copy and mess around in the steam copy :).

Sure, well, also I don't risk being banned, I'll just put Steam offline ;) sadly some people try to rank high playing with cheats, though most of them are exposed, expecially if they dare to reach the top numbers. The game is great by the way, and clearly hinting at the DOOM/Heretic era, but very simpler and it does not offer the same possibility of modding DOOM did, as it's basically an empty round arena filled with monsters, so you can't really design your missions, but you can apply some graphic fx and set when monsters spawn. This way you can train with big bosses skipping the early minions. Incidentally there is a Devil Dagger inspirered DOOM II mod, DaggerHell.
May I request Black Guards 2?

Thanks.

Is it possible to make a sticky with links for the currently 1st and 2nd posts, so there is no need for the sticky to be edited?
Not sure if it's even possible due limit per post but my idea would be something around:
Move the 1st and 2nd post to the 2nd and 3rd
Using the 1st post as a sticky, stating that everyone should read the rules carefuly, stating where they are and possibly a link?

I get what you mean, people just read the "can I get a game" and try some luck posting the same, without even paying atention and probably the move isn't even worth it. Just an idea.

I'm fairly certain the prior host, Zeogold, had made use of the sticky at one point for both community GAs, but it only lasted a few months.

It was a while ago now, obviously, so I don't remember why he discontinued it (maybe he'll pop in to share) but I think it was some combo of:
1) The first post still needed to be changed from time to time, and the mods didn't like having to resticky it
2) It didn't really seem to increase reading comprehension all that much anyway, people still asked for games that weren't on the list, etc.

It was for both of those reasons, and that's why I've never bothered to ask anyone to sticky them.
