Mugiwarah: Isn't there any anternative that do not require personnal information?, it seems a lot of peoples can't use discord or don't want to (including me, i don't like to share any personnal information to website like discord)
I chose Discord because almost every gamer has a Discord account already anyway, I can make the server completely private, and I'm familiar with it. I don't understand the obsession with refusing to give out personal information, even when it's needed for 2FA and to help keep out trolls and hackers and bots. I really don't. I've given Discord my phone number and seen zero consequences from doing so. I haven't received any more spam calls or texts than before. I guess I'm just not paranoid about people potentially spying on me in a day and age when there are cameras everywhere and every smartphone has a GPS and can be remotely turned on, and the camera and mic can be turned on remotely. You're already being spied on in way worse ways than you think you're going be spied on by giving Discord your phone number. Is this a European thing or a generational thing? I'm not quite sure.

Doc0075: A big thank you to finkleroy, zeogold, moonshineshadow and IAmSinistar for keeping this wonderful GOG giveaway running for so long, donating so much of their free time to benefit the community here.
(...)
Many thanks for all the games and joy you have brought to many, me included! And judging by your achievements you also are, unlike me, an amazingly gifted player!

I think we all know that we are spied already, but it doesn't mean we have to add other peoples on the spy list but it's fine if it's more convenient for you to use discord, i understand it, it was just a simple question.

I think it's GOG type thing. ;) There still are not any concerns in "non-GOG" giveaway topic.

I am a gamer but I do not use any external "social sites" nor "additional applications" (just like @mrkgnao).

I just do not need them to play games and have fun. I think I'm also "too old" for this. Games were always a big part of my life (in the past I was a magazine editor, now I'm creating my own game) - I just don't feel any need to "share my gaming life" with some other people.

I get that. I probably wouldn't have a Discord account either if I weren't a shut-in who's on Twitch most of the time. I mainly use Discord to keep in touch with friends.

Haha, that's a big difference - I'm using phone calls or just mails for the same thing.

And that's where this conversation comes full-circle. I'm not talking about people I know face-to-face, so we don't really want to give each other our phone number or e-mail address.
Thank you JocktheLock1 for Regions of Ruin!
Thanks Finkleroy, hope that moving to discord making things easier for you.
The keys that are currently available in this giveaway were donated to be given out to active members of the GOG community, so I will be keeping this thread open and granting keys until all of the non-daggered keys are granted, and the two freebie keys for Thea 2: The Shattering are either granted or expire. Once they're all gone, I'll have a moderator lock this thread. In the meantime, if anyone donates GOG keys, they'll be put into the giveaway on the Discord server, and I'll inform them of that when I receive them. The remaining daggered keys will be added to the giveaway on Discord. If you donated any of those daggered keys and would like them back, please let me know and I'll transfer them back to you.

And those gamers who fall outside of "almost every" are generally speaking GOG users, who don't use social media, downloaders, or too much of anything that "everyone" else is using.

You can of course do whatever you want with your giveaway, but if you want it to be somehow GOG related, the Discord crowd is presumably very different from your average old school GOG crowd.

Both.
Old Good Old Gamers don't need or want any social media stuff or modern platforms, generally speaking.

And Europeans invented those cookie warnings on websites and stuff, so there's that too.

And there are good reasons for being alert about these things. For instance, I get personalised ads on my phone about the company that I'm actually working for! And since I haven't shared any files between my laptop and phone, the only connecting link is that despite being careful about cookies and stuff, somehow Google has spied on me visiting my company's site, and then turning that information into ads on my phone.

Limiting the number of sites that one visits or has accounts for is simply a logical thing to do these days.

Having said that, I actually have a Discord account, and I don't think I have been spied too much there.

Of course, one reason is that I rarely if ever go there, because I absolutely hate the internal logic (or lack of) that service, and after trying to browse some conversations there for a while, I gave up.
Simply too annoying and disorganised compared to forums.

Every person who's a member of the Discord server is someone who was already eligible for and participating in one or both of the giveaways on the GOG forum. I have no plans to allow anyone new to join, though we'll talk about it after the dust settles.

I wouldn't know what kind of advertising is directed at me because I block all of it, full stop, no exceptions.

Well Twitter isn't new either yet many of us don't have a twitter account (nor want one). I mean if there's 300 million registered ( but 150 million active) Discord users yet also around 2.5bn-3bn gamers worldwide, then +90-95% of gamers don't use Discord. It primarily seems "everyone uses it" because people who use it are more visible (streamers, online gamers, etc) get all the media / social media attention whilst those who don't generally don't randomly post "Today I'm announcing that I'm a non Discord user. That is all" in forums. In the gaming world, there's often a lot of selection bias involved with "every gamer uses x". Eg, just picking one game, if there's 300m Fortnite users but only 150m active Discord users then half of all gamers of the single most popular online multi-player game in the world don't use it, it just the half that do that get the attention for being where all the streamers, gaming press, etc, is focused on.

I appreciate your help but honestly I'm not going through all that and definitely not giving out my phone number. I'd rather just say a polite "thank you" to everyone who donated / managed the giveaways in the past then bow out, and best wishes to finkleroy and everyone else for the future.

Man, an end of an era. Thank you finkleroy, zeogold, and every other contributor to this long standing community giveaway on the forums.
