They are completely different studios and have no relation to each other.

It was never made clear why the studio chose the name as far as I know. Some times I think it is a placeholder name that just stuck like Project Zomboid or Project Warlock.

But maybe it has some in game reason that becomes apparent later on.

Indeed. Fran (Unepic/Unmetal/Ghost) wasn't happy about it either when I told him but I guess there's not much you can do to prevent such things without protecting the name or prefix itself (if even possible). And NOW I saw the pun ... I shouldn't post without having coffeee first ;)
